Looking for an edc pocket knife

Personally I like OTF knives that clip onto my front pocket. Bought a Cobratec knife and used it for 10 years.
Finally replaced it in March. Paid about $100 from my LGS

Sweet! Our Snap-On guy recently became a dealer for a company that makes those pokey-outtie knives and I was playing around with one last week. Pretty cool. I used to buy knives on sight and stopped doing that a long time ago, or I'da bought one.

Folders are nice, but they always end up in the bottom of the pocket or in a holster. Or worse, they open up there.

I used to use my knife for everything. Carried it every day. Used it at home, always at work (cutting plastic wrap, as a screwdriver (I know), etc and it just plain wore it out.

FWIW, I don't care that the guy likes Benchmade, but it seems very much like a toddler having a tantrum when he started trying to say that being anti-Benchmade meant you were anti-LE. I bet Mr. Twitter fingers is a bubbleguming blast to be around at parties, assuming he hasn't worn out his welcome with silly opinions in the real world .

Thread's kind of mixing a few different lanes.

You've got guys talking hard-use folders (Adamas, PM2/Military), others running cheaper "don't care if I lose it" knives, and a couple people moving to replaceable blade setups for high-volume cutting like boxes and tape. All valid, just solving different problems.

What I've found is the use case matters more than brand:

• If you're cutting a lot of cardboard/tape, you're going to kill edges fast and either sharpen constantly or switch to something like a replaceable blade
• If it's general EDC, carry comfort and lock type matter more than steel on paper
• If you don't want to care about it, stay in that $30–$100 range and move on

Before throwing more models out there, what are you actually using it for most of the time?

Opening packages, general utility, or harder use

How are you carrying it?

And what's your price ceiling / do you care if it gets lost or beat up?

It must be opposite day. Usually we are fairly well in sync. Not here. I try to avoid Benchmade and the Police. I just received an order from Midway USA last week.

My reasoning may be a little different than some. I avoid Benchmade because I've already got enough knives that someone might think I'm a collector (I'm not.), and they're way more than I want to spend. I avoid the cops because I don't want my car insurance rates to get any higher. Midway USA not selling magazines doesn't bother me in the least. They're certainly not obligated to sell me anything. As long as they haven't taken an openly anti-2A stance (think Dick's), if they're running a sale - I'm all over it. Besides, the Potterfields and Midway USA have done more to support the NRA and other outdoor groups such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation financially over the years, than 99.9%+ of other businesses. Midway USA is NOT our enemy.

I have given up trying to explain this to shooters. A shocking number of them support the morons who pass laws that take our rights away. They toss their ballot, tell anyone who will listen to not vote, ect. Then when states start in with moronic gun laws and places just refuse to ship here they come screaming about how "they are too good" to ever deal with those companies again. Sounds great since the law makers they put in office have no problem going after these companies. So by all means scream and stamp their feet and say don't buy from some company while they ignore the elections that put the morons in office who are the real threat. That and tell people to give up since voting is for fools. Now there is some wining idea's alright.

VERY true! Before they let us start having auto's again I tended to carry two. One knife was cheap, normally import, for every day cutting and if lost who cares buy another. Another was an assisted opener that was kept for back up defense uses and never used to cut things.
Then some asshat here went and told me WA no longer felt like drive by knifing was a thing and dropped the laws. My bank account was not happy even though I was Well off I went buying some nice knives. So I settled on a lower end auto made by SOG TAC AU compact as a beater do everything knife. They do get used a LOT and so far have been well worth the cost. They cost enough that it will not be painless if lost but seem to hold up great.
For backup started buying several offerings from Pro-Tech. They are made for only one thing, are very well made, US made and do cost enough that I hope to never lose one. Gifted several of these to family too. Blade HQ has seen a lot of my credit card last couple years

Personally, I tend to use my $2000 Strider SMF mostly to open Mexican cokes and Amazon boxes for my wife. Funny enough after so many years of carry I have a funny insight in the wear. About 15 years ago I crashed my Harley doing wheelies and I had deep road rash on the titanium lock side, after all these years of carry I have successfully worn the knife out to the point where you almost can't even tell

My shop in OC is not far from Benchmade. After seeing all of the stupid chit talked by you keyboard warriors I almost contacted OC Police to see if they needed a hand the next go-round. I can't believe the depths that people go to smear someone/thing.

I won't buy from Midway because they won't ship mags to Oregon. Does that mean they are a POS company to deal with? No, but unfortunately they are too lazy to keep up with the law. This is something real, unlike the hate Benchmade received from helping the local police department. I thought helping the cops was a good thing.

I just don't see what the company did wrong. The guns were getting destroyed one way or another. They had a good working relationship with the law enforcement agency of their community. The LE agency didn't have the tools to demo the guns (that they were required by law to destroy) and Benchmade did. They ask Benchmade to help and they obliged. The only thing that went sideways was a social media post and everyone over reacting (myself included) because they saw an object getting cut in half.

I have no issue with Benchmade or the police.

I am no white knight. I can just see past my immature knee jerk emotional response.

Old Timer folder has been in my pocket for years.

Wife and I went to a Seahawks game a couple years ago. When we go we always repeat to each other "No guns no knives". Well, I forgot to leave the old timer at home and tried to sway security when they found it , but no go.

Hid in the bushes in front of the stadium, and never found it afterwards lol. Bought 3 replacements on ebay when I seen they were only $10 each.

After the game when I went to retrieve it and quickly decided it was a lost cause, there was a couple close by that fished out the woman's purse they had stashed. I thought that was pretty ballsy. (Only clear bags allowed at Lumen field)

The one knife that I always carry is an original style Gerber LST. I might also carry something else, depending on where I'm going or what I'm doing, but it's been over 30 years since I haven't had a LST in my pocket.

I use my brain and don't run off of emotion.

Which if we are being honest is probably the equivalent of being out of touch. Especially in the 2A "community" when anything they dislike happens "The world is immediately ending."

You're that same person who video tapes themselves burning all their Nike stuff or Carhartt stuff because the company did something you don't like. You have the right to do so. It's your money. But you look like a toddler throwing a fit.

Yep. Don't know when they the law makers decided that they did not need to protect us from drive by knifing. The places that sell auto's always had a disclaimer about WA saying you had to prove you were an LEO or Firefighter. Couple years back a member here told me to look again and damned if it was not gone. Had a "problem" at work a bit ago and we ended up having to have a chat with the Chief of the local department. Was told that WA indeed did not have laws on a knife being a "weapon". State left it up to locals to decide if they wanted to make some. So far Seattle and Tacoma that I know of have come up with "rules". Have not bothered to try to look them up to see what they say. The place I have been buying from, Blade HQ does warn those buying autos that they are NOT going to give legal advice to buyers. That the buyer needs to check with their local laws.
