It is official, Brandon Herrera is the official Republican congressional nomination for TX 23. That basically makes him a sure thing for the general election. Tony Gonzales has dropped out amid scrutiny over an affair with a staffer that lead to her suicide. I cannot think of a better outcome for 2A advocates, as Brandon will be a firebrand for us in congress, and I for one cannot wait for him to get in and start moving bills. Let's go Brandon!

He too hates the P320.

So….. I approve.

But leave it to you know to already accuse him of expressing an affinity for Nazism and white supremacy (because he owns a vintage copy of 'Mein Kampf') and to refer to him as:
'A man who has an unhealthy obsession with the far right and its weapons'.

I am glad he is not running from his past content. That stuff is pure gold. And the fact that most of that content already came with "context warnings" where he called out that people would take it out of context is just pure gold. "Look, that man is a NAZI!" "That man is satirizing NAZIs, and in the video you cited he preemptively called out liars like you for taking it out of context." Some of the community notes already on X are savage.

I don't know enough about him to support him or not but I do know he's pro gun and that's certainly a step in a direction

I like to see pro gun folks run for office and win....hope he does.

That said...
I also hope when he speaks in public he tones himself down a bit....watched a few of his videos...
And like many folks who have a channel....I find his presentation to be a little over the top...and off putting.

I would like my elected officials and newscasters to be 'Joe Friday"....just the facts.....:D

Sometimes to get views, especially on YouTube, you gotta go over the top. That said, yes I agree that he should tone himself down when he speaks publicly but on the other hand, over the top may be needed to get more people talking about the 2A and what it stands for?

I understand that....and when I get my you tube channel up and running ( soon now ) ....
There ain't gonna be no over the top BS or antics.
I can't stand that...at all

It is a case of the messenger killing the message.

His YouTube videos are just that; entertainment. He has an energy and a character that he brings to help drive engagement and views. He is pretty clear that that is what it is; content for the screen, with a fair amount of acting, sarcasm and satire.

Watch any of his speeches, or his election update videos, or his interviews; he is remarkably down to earth, straight forwards and professional. He still has energy, but it is more controlled and tempered. He is also quite capable of stone-cold seriousness, like when he addresses topics like suicide and murder. He did a video a few years ago like that when he addressed the mass shooter wearing a Demo Ranch shirt if you want to see an example of that.

On the other hand he is also not afraid to lean into the dark humor like his Darwin Awards series. He is up front that that content is not for everyone, and you have to understand that not everyone deal with trauma and a serious amount of stupidity the same way. Even then the dark humor it is treated as a chance to learn how not to win a Darwin Award.

Just watching his production content is not really a fair measure of the man. It is like trying to measure an actor by only watching their movies. When they are on those screens they are deliberately pretending to be someone they are not for the sake of entertainment. You need to see them outside the production environment to really get to know what they are like, and while that is hard to do through just video (even professional style video have an element of editing to them) he does seem to know the difference between the real world and acting in a YT video.

"If it makes everyone in the room feel better, I often think about putting a gun in my mouth, so, I'm basically an honorary veteran."

We should be able to do better than this
Quotes pulled out of context are exactly what the left is using to try and sink him. Brandon has done tremendous work with and for veterans, including veteran help and support services. He also does not apologize for any of his dark humor, which he often uses to draw attention to issues he feels are not getting enough attention, like veteran suicide. This is a topic that is close to him, as he personally knew veterans who have taken their own lives.

Of course none of this is reflected in his Wikipedia page, so I would not expect anyone who only gets their information from leftist sources to know that.

You don't have to like dark humor yourself, but using it to impugn him, damage his credibility and compromise his election when he is, in fact, one of the best candidates we can have is a remarkable idiotic thing to do in my opinion. Who else do you want for that district? Tony Gonzales? Katy Padilla Stout maybe?

Brandon deserves our support. He is an incredible 2A advocate, has done fantastic charity service since well before he even had an inkling of political aspirations and has been a massive force for good in basically every area of public life he gets into. Just because you don't share the same type of humor he does is not an indictment of his character, and removing that humor from the context it was made in is a pretty low blow to make when his candidacy is one of the best opportunities we have to advance the 2A in this country in a long time.
