I bought this as a duffle cut sporter with the original stock (dated 1899). The buttstock was cut about an inch and the rear was sanded to fit a recoil pad. I put some walnut back on it and reshaped a military buttplate to fit. I also grafted a wood forend back on to it and installed the correct metal. The handguard still need clips, but the sight ladder holds it in place. Its a great shooter, but will need some finishing.
At worst you have a more than decent original, uncut, sighted barreled action, still in 30-40 Krag. Works pretty good how it is, but for the purist, you can get a new wood set for it. Or bubba it up if you want, I'm not the cops. Sort of an OBO situation. DM works best.
