Just curious as to if there's anyone else on here interested in bladesmithing! I finally acquired everything needed on a base level to beat on steel.. I was a union blacksmith making leaf spring suspension years back. I have the know how, just need to re direct my skills.

Wow, great work. I just have the general knowledge of smithing, just hoping it helps me learn a bit easier than someone starting completely fresh!Bladesmithing is absolutely one of the best hobbies out there! I've been at it for about 15 years. Though, if you used to be a blacksmith to any degree, I don't doubt your forging skills far surpass my own.

Thanks. One thing to note about your forge; make sure you seal up the ceramic wool. That stuff is no joke and akin to asbestos; you really don't want to breathe it in. There are lots of different products, but a rigidizer and a over coat like satanite are popular. Plus, it will further insulate and let you get up to welding temps.Wow, great work. Rebar is a great for cheap practice. Leaf springs, coil springs and American made files are inexpensive high carbon steels that can make excellent knives if the heat treatment is good.
Where are you located? I have been making full time for a decade at Behring Made, and just started my own shop in Eugene. Along with my knives I offer several tiers of instruction too. I've burned the snot out of my hands, does that count?I've burned the snot out of some steel and pounded on it between a hammer and anvil on occasion, mostly forming a newly shaped steel blob.
I can teach you whatever you want to know- I have structured offerings but also can work with you on an hourly basis if you just want to focus on particular skill building. Unless I am scheduled with other students or personal matters, I am available seven days a week at whatever hours accomodate participants.
