Just curious as to if there's anyone else on here interested in bladesmithing! I finally acquired everything needed on a base level to beat on steel.. I was a union blacksmith making leaf spring suspension years back. I have the know how, just need to re direct my skills.

Bladesmithing is absolutely one of the best hobbies out there! I've been at it for about 15 years. Though, if you used to be a blacksmith to any degree, I don't doubt your forging skills far surpass my own.

Here is a small sample of my work. 1000000081.jpg 1000000079.jpg 1000000118.jpg 1000000187.jpg 1000000243.jpg 1000000368.jpg 1000000530.jpg 1000003843.jpg

Wow, great work. I just have the general knowledge of smithing, just hoping it helps me learn a bit easier than someone starting completely fresh!

I've burned the snot out of some steel and pounded on it between a hammer and anvil on occasion, mostly forming a newly shaped steel blob.

I've attempted a couple knife-shaped objects with some success.

I haven't had as much time to put into it as I'd like. The process is quite engaging and rewarding when you get into a groove.

Thanks. One thing to note about your forge; make sure you seal up the ceramic wool. That stuff is no joke and akin to asbestos; you really don't want to breathe it in. There are lots of different products, but a rigidizer and a over coat like satanite are popular. Plus, it will further insulate and let you get up to welding temps.

Where are you located? I have been making full time for a decade at Behring Made, and just started my own shop in Eugene. Along with my knives I offer several tiers of instruction too. Cunningham Custom Shop
