I have bought (yet to pick up) Kimber of Oregon 84 in .223 Cal. It has a round receiver with integral dovetails. I need some advice from someone who knows Kimber of Oregon rifles (not Kimber of Yonkers NY).

I am looking for scope mounting options so will need dovetail mounts and rings to suit or a dovetail/ring combo. It will be used with a 6x44 scope with 1" tube. I emailed Leupold who gave me part numbers of mounts (Gloss 50231 or Matt 50232) but they have been out of production for many years with no luck finding them on ebay or Gunbroker.

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it means you have a lead on the two part numbers that Leupold provided.

Thanks in advance.

Check with Talley. They make (made) a lot of Kimber rifle stuff over the years.

Or maybe Warne. There is a connection, ya know?
They list some actions from Kimber of Oregon.

Talley has saved my bacon twice when looking for unusual/unavailable bases.

In one instance they pulled a base out of the line before it was drilled so that they could send me an unlisted "gunmaker's base" (undrilled) in order that my 'smith could drill to match my weird hole spacing. Personal attention and re-contacts from the guy I got on the phone to start with. He was VERY interested in the gun I was messing with.

Another avenue I would consider were i in your shoes is to contact Kimber collectors (a club or association if they have one?).

I bought a tackle box of scope rings from G I Joes when they went out of business many years ago.
I might have something that would work for your Kimber.

Thank you to those who replied.

Once upon a time I wouldn't think twice about altering a firearm (like the time I beat the front sight off a Brno Fox Mod 2 because I wanted a more modern looking rifle) but I've gotten a bit wiser and Talley mounts require me to drill holes, something I am loathe to do but they appear to be a solid looking system.

It looks like Warne may have what I need however I'll email them and check as they are flat based mounts and the rifle has a round receiver.

To Greenburg. What is a KoO rifle?

Thank you.
How I'd like to scratch through that lot of bits and pieces. My wife just doesn't understand my interest in things like that, she sees junk, I see treasure.
And they are actually sorted!

I miss the old fashioned gun shows where you walk amongst tables and look over someone elses collection of things they have collected over a lifetimes worth of interest in everything firearm related. I got to organizing my bits and pieces a couple of months ago and was surprised by what I had collected.

I paid around a hundred bucks for that tackle box and for all the little specialty screws was worth it.
I've sold some scope rings, given a bunch away and even helped out some gunsmiths in the Portland area who were in a bind trying to match an oddball scope ring to a particular rifle.
The picture I showed here is half of what it contained when I purchased it.

This is getting harder than I thought. I emailed Warne to check compatibility of the 8501M Warne HyperLite 1 inch, medium rings which I would need for a 1" tube and a 44mm objective scope along with the inquiry if they had a round bottomed dovetail mount (they don't) or something else and this was their reply:

"The Kimber of Oregon M84 would take the M888/842M if drilled and tapped.

Exactly what I DIDN'T want to do but may have to given the limited options for a round bottomed dovetail mount. The Warne 8501M mount, which would fit without any drilling, is a flat bottom base and it would, in my opinion, look like a dogs breakfast.

What about having those modified to fit the gun?
If I can't find what I'd prefer then I think those will be the best, and certainly the most secure, way especially with the ring options out there to fit.
In the meantime I'm going to get one of these, approx $13.00. I think I have a set of Leupold QRW rings somewhere. If they don't work, well they aren't going to break the bank.

Kimber of Oregon
Use the Warne 7.3 rings, no drilling, they clamp right to the dovetail on top of the reciever. They are quite good, I have them on 4 KoO rifles.
They do look good.

Would you be able to post a couple of pics with them on your rifle? I'm interested in seeing how the flat bottom of the rings will look across the top of the curved Kimber receiver. I know I'm being a bit pedantic but I want it to look good as well as hold the scope tight.

I did find a listing for an original Kimber of Oregon set of rings for a curved receiver, and I may yet buy them, if I am okay with selling a kidney.

I remind myself of a story I heard years ago:
Guy goes to a flea market and sees a headlight for a car he is restoring. "I've been looking for one of these for years! How much do you want for it"
When told the price, "What?!?! I'm not paying that much for it".

Edit:
Found a set that isn't break the bank price. They are original Kimber of Oregon rings that have the curved base for the Model 84.

Ended up buying these.
I gave the dimensions of the scope to Talley and they gave me a part # of 22TRL which list them as 22 Anschutz 1" steel rings. I decided against the original Kimber rings with the lever for the simple reason I don't need to take them off and on as there aren't open sights on the rifle.

After chatting with a Kimber of Oregon collector I bought an original set of high rings from him. I didn't want to take the chance of the Talley rings not being high enough for the 44mm when I get the rifle and having to then wait even longer to get rings that would fit.

Yeah I know, I'm all over the place like a mad women's bubblegume :)
