As part of the growth process, we must reflect on the past to learn from our experiences. We have an Organization that started from a concept and through a tremendous amount of work. We have built it into what it is today. One important part to note is that at the very beginning of our program, we did NOT have a manual for the work that we were trying to accomplish. We have learned a lot from trial and error. It has mostly been a good learning experience with some losses, but for the majority of our career, there have been many wins. While the losses hurt, it is important to celebrate the wins yet still learn and get better from the things that didn't go in our favor. This is the only way to grow. When you do what we do, there are lives attached to the work that we do in the public. As one of our goals, we must educate young children about the dangers of an unsecured firearm. We never try to scare them but speak about this important topic in a way where they can be empowered to make good, safe decisions. I remember back in 2016, coming up with the phrase, "ZERO firearm accidents is the only acceptable goal!!" I was in Utah for training, and I was driving from Salt Lake City to Park City, Utah. As we drove, I noticed on the side of the highway that stated, "ZERO Drunk Driving accidents is the only acceptable goal." That sign stuck with me, and I modified the concept to fit the work that I was in development. This gave us a powerful mantra that we could use to reinforce our mission.

What we have learned from 8 years of service

We are excited to announce that we will be taking our gun safety classes for children on the road in July with help from one of our Title Sponsors, Vaultek Safe. As partners, we are on opposite coasts and it makes the ability for us to work together on "special projects" challenging. We typically catch up, face to face once a year at SHOT Show. There isn't enough time to talk strategy because of how hectic it is. We started the conversation about filming a special video for their "Safer Together" series on their website. This would be a great opportunity for us to get our important message of secure storage to their customers. It was this conversation and how we meet somewhere in the middle of the country that blossomed into a 4 state tour that kicks off in July. It was these talks with the Vaultek media team that helped spur ideas and turn them into action.

As the days get longer and the temperature warmer, summer days lead to fun opportunities. We are looking forward to July and our return to Youth Hunting Camp! This will be our third year in attendance and teaching rifle classes at the camp. The camp is held near Fort Rock, Oregon on a 160-acre ranch that is an outdoor wonderland. The best part is no cell service and it gives us the ability to teach our gun safety classes for kids. Plus we get some downtime and get the chance to recharge. Our safety dog, Zoya goes with us and is a big hit with the kids. If you don't know about Zoya, she is a white French Bulldog, who quickly turns dark brown only minutes after arriving at camp. Mostly because she likes to roll in the dirt. It is hilarious until it's time to share a sleeping bag at night. She is lucky that she is cute and that I love her dearly. Upon our arrival, we pick our spot and set up our camp for the weekend. The REV (Rapid Education Van) our Ram Promaster serves as our bunkhouse for the weekend. The van gives us the ability to haul all of our gear, unload, and then put up a cot. It is the home sweet home for the weekend.

In our gun safety classes for kids, we see kids who cross the full gamut of learning experiences and learning abilities. When you meet as many kids as we do, you see a little bit of everything. We believe that every child needs our help, and we will always go above and beyond to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to learn true gun safety. Being a parent in 2024 is not an easy job. You have inflation that has raised prices on everything, which has put families in a position where they may have to either make cuts or work more hours to make ends meet. Busy schedules and lack of free time put a burden on parents, and some tend to allow technology to play a bigger role in the raising of their children. As an Organization, we have a love and hate relationship with big tech! Meta censors us all while we are dependent on their platform to bring awareness to our mission and to reach the families. It is not the most comfortable position to be in. So, we empathize with parents and understand how difficult it is to raise children. We are the lucky ones because we only have to spend time with the kids, an hour to two at a time.

Being Present As A Parent

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. The reason is that it gives all Americans an important holiday to celebrate. The red, the white, and the blue are the colors that freedom-loving citizens don to commemorate the day we all hold in high regard. We believe that as a public, it is important to teach the traditions and the historical relevance of this day, especially to future generations. Our children will never know how truly great our country is if they aren't taught about its founding. In our gun safety classes for children, we always cover important traditions that we were taught by the generations before ours. We pass these lessons down to all the kids that we reach. This gives us a way to honor those who are no longer with us. The key message that we hope to deliver is our love for our country. In all reality, our nation is sick and needs our help. The way that we help America is by passing our love of country onto our children. The greatest gift that we could give America is the next generation that is prepared to stand in the breach. We need leadership! We need courage! We need independent thought and strong future leaders.

For The Love Of Country

Next week, we embark on another step forward. We are hopping on a plane and taking our show on the road. As exciting as it may be, the fear of the unknown is always in the back of my mind. I know that I am overthinking it, and everything will work out the way that we intend it to. We have taught our gun safety classes to kids in many different states. This will be no different. On any given month, we offer multiple classes in multiple locations within the same day. It is very common to do a class, break down, and drive to a new location. Then, set up again and teach another class. The difference between this and our upcoming Midwest tour is that I know the facilities. On tour, I will not know anything about the facilities, and there will be times when I will be crossing into a neighboring state. This is the nerve-wracking part, but I know that it will work out well. So far, the response has been positive. Families need educational opportunities, and that is what we specialize in.
