I guess I am too old, a handshake still works for me sometimes depending on the man and the shake.
But I do not get the sending money to a guy I do not know what ever zelle is heard of it somewhat.( shut up i'm old ).
I use Ebay often for Camera stuff when I see and item I check:

Feedback and trade only 100% ers . Or a reasonable issue 99.7% and higher.
I check how long they have been selling and when was their last sale.
Where are they located.
And then how long have they had the account.
And then I write them and ask some random question about the item. That tells me how they communicate.
Then I bid or buy now.
But I have PalPay and tracking to get money back.

Explain to me like I am 5. Why do people send money without verification?
No knock on the OP, but its happened to me here once. A guy wanted to email me, I said we can just use NWFA chat.
He refused and I said see ya. I know NWFA can see IPs and locations so I feel safer doing it here.

Sad, scammers do this.

The acquisition of firearms, ammunition, and other weapons is another area where Zelle draws a firm line. The platform's policies reflect a commitment to preventing the use of its services for transactions that could pose a threat to public safety.

Don't forget PP

"You may not use the PayPal service for activities that: relate to transactions involving … ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law."

Plus folks can look up phone #'s & perhaps even e-mail addresses...
This has been a huge issue on the cowboy action forum, there are multiple post on how to avoid it, messages went out to every member, updates a couple times a month, and for all of that a couple times a month, someone still falls for the sacm

This was-is an issue on the Rokslide Forum as well. Photo and date placard requirements were suggested and are often used there. My personal solution is to limit my transactions to Face to Face cash only. I have shipped items to buyers, but that's not an issue since I get my money before I ship. As to buying an item that will be shipped, I'm not doing person to person anymore. If I really want something I'll just pay a bit more and get it online or from a vetted vendor on Gunbroker. Reality is I don't do the last option much anymore but that's what's things have come to.

And yet, that's exactly what I've used it for.

A hell of a LOT of people do. The only time it would be a "problem" is if someone tries to get their money back from a sale gone wrong. If you had to admit to them you were buying something on their "do not list" they have an out to not help. Now with PP if the money came from a Credit Card you can overrule them and get your money back. PP "could" cancel your account then, no idea if they would. The other forms of payment I have never used so no idea how they allow the buyer to get the money. If its direct from a bank account? Then they could just tell you sucks to be you.

Well guys. Add me to the list.

User @aquariumjunky has good feedback, and was an active member until last year. Reverse image search of the ad revealed no other results. I didn't even think twice when he asked for Paypal F&F.

I paid him $325 for an EOTech. He said he would ship tomorrow. Good english. Only red flag I saw was that his profile stated he lived in Albany, but the ad said the item was in NC. I've seen that on this site before, though, and some users just forget to update their profiles.

I start getting that feeling something's not right. Make a post on his ad, and lo and behold, @PyroLoo messages me and says he, too, has paid for the EOTech.

Guys, I grew up buying bubblegum off gun forums. I've used Paypal F&F for a long time, probably close to 20 years. Never got caught in a scam because they were always easy to ID. It disheartens me that I can no longer fully trust the feedback system here on NWFA. It scares me that none of my usual checks worked.

For those who don't know me, I got laid off from my day job a few months ago. This prompted me to start working for myself full time doing the whole gunsmithing/machine shop deal. Money has been a little tight. Not excessively so, but to the point where I haven't bought many toys for myself since losing my job. I'm probably done buying stuff on here for a while unless I can meet face to face. Hope this isn't oversharing, but I'm bummed out.

NWFA is not safe to trade or buy. Because it never was.
Don't get me wrong I have traded a dozen or more here before. ( under and old account I could not recover).
The forum is full of flakes and setups and many more great transactions.
I have had flakes that were businesses and citizens in here.

So NWFA has not changed. Scammers have become more sophisticated and evil on how they do business.
My Gmail I got back on 2003 before the launch and I get scammers everyday having and email that old.
What I know is people suck. Trust no one. The world is not what it was 10 years ago.
Because scammers now use the places and tools you thought were safe.
I blame Oregon and WA law makers. By removing FF private sales. The avenue to trade is more complicated and scammers?
Well the more complicated the more they can make a move and get cash before you are the wiser or its too late.
I loath the NW law makers, the vile POS that they are made nothing safer. They only allowed as the always have a place
for criminals to thrive. Why punishing the law abiding.

I know Joe does his best to protect all of us, but only so much pre-protection can be done.
A IP tracker is useless now days. So a person can post where they say they are and be 1000 miles away.

Be careful people. Stop sending money to anyone. And using a system that does not allow gun sales,
puts a nail in the coffin. Because if they say no gun sales, then its on you that you used a place that said no don't do that.
Sorry if I sound harsh I feel the loss of being scammed, I have been once or twice in a safe trading space.
But there is simply too many scammers using pre-paid services. Even Ebay is not safe to buy a Camera from.
Thats another story and a different scam.

Dang! So, was this a scammer who had hijacked/hacked aquarium's profile? I see the account was active just a few days ago.

He was a long time poster who hadn't been on in many years. Guys it's a $325 exps 3-1 and we know of the scams going on. Took me two seconds to see he hasn't posted since 2018. Trust your gut guys.

Exps 3 don't get posted for $350 even. Evers
Nobody is selling T2 for $400 and nobody is selling acros for $325. Nobody is selling brand new loaded BCM uppers for $400 shipped. Hmmmm what else. Nobody is selling acogs for $500. Notice the large gap between when they last posted and when they posted this unbelievable good deal

Too good to be true…… It's a real thing and sadly people continue to fall for it.

His last post was in Sept of 2024.

I've gotten good deals on this site and others. It's not right to say just because something is cheap that it's a scam. That's simply not true. It should be cause to look into the poster a little closer. Which I thought I did. 90 positive feedback, long time member, not an unreasonable amount of time since their last post, reverse image search came back with no results. To me, that would be considered a safe transaction, up until today. That's what's got me worked up. There does not appear to be a good way to spot these scammers anymore.
