My son is moving from Alaska to North Carolina. Like most Alaskans, he has accumulated a lot of ammo, how can he get it to the lower 48? He's shipping his firearms because he's driving through Canadian land.

Thanks in advance.

Since he's driving through Canada his best option is likely going to be shipping it through Alaska Air Freight. Depending on timeline of his move he may need to apply to become a "known shipper". Depending on what part of the state he's in it might be easiest to just go to the airport and talk to them about their recommendations.

Alternatively depending on how much he has: you can fly commercial with a surprising amount of ammunition (50lb on most flights). He could barge whatever vehicle(s) he wants down to Seattle or Bellingham, fly with both the guns and ammo to meet the vehicles, and drive cross country afterwards. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks
He's driving through Canada not wanting to deal with the hassle, he's checking with AA for shipping the ammo. Probably more than 50 pounds but the wife and I are checking the FA's and 10# each of ammo. Might just have this figured out. 👍

What airline has a fifty pound limit? When I was in Hawaii, all of the airlines I used had a limit of like ten pounds. Most airlines cap your bag at fifty pounds.

Take a ferry.

Just checked, Alaskan, Hawaiian, Delta, United and American all have an eleven pound limit on ammo.

If he sells at Alaska prices, he'll be able to replace what he sold and then some with the proceeds and NOT have to deal with shipping anything at all. No additional expenses, just "free" ammo.

Whelp, I'm not sure what I was reading. Maybe I saw the international one. I was incorrect.

Start at the Alaska coast and sail south to the Panama Canal.

Go thru that and then north until you hit North Carolina.
Don't laugh he took that route three times with an older boat to get it refurbished in Baltimore, limped it back to Alaska got it working half assed enough and drove it back to Baltimore to let them handle it and flew back. What a FUBAR!!!
