I have a Cimarron Thunderer .357/.38spl with 3.5 inch barrel on the way. Needing a recommendation for a modern day holster for this style of pistol to wear on a modern day belt. Not looking for a western setup. Also, this isn't for CCW so, thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing what you suggest.

Much cheaper, I have a couple of these I am pleased with.

Something like this is what I would go with myself for the ease of on and off as well as adjustable tension and strap retention for that short barrel lighter weight pistol.

Something like that is exactly what I had in mind! Thank you very much. :s0155: I have a message in with Mernicle Holsters and depending on what they say, I may just pick that one up.

Only my opinion, but you need a belt mounted holster, with a really heavy duty belt.

Another good choice.

Then if you already know what you want, go for it. There are lessons in doing so. And some of these lessons reside in a box in my garage.

I know from tons of experience a heavy single action revolver needs a decent rig to be carried comfortably, safely, and effectively. You want to be able to draw that revolver under any conditions and not worry about pulling the holster off with your handgun.

I have many such holsters. If you want to meet and try them out, that would be doable.

And you know better than most... effective retention is important.

I hear ya and was just curious on the paddle holster. If there's a possibility of it coming out, then it's definitely not one I would want. I'm just getting ideas for now as the gun hasn't arrived yet. Definitely value your experience my friend! :s0155:

Here are two more, shown with 3-1/2" SA revolvers.

All of the major companies offer their versions of these same holsters.

If your woods packing, and of no particular need of fast draw, you might consider one with a flap to keep the rain and dirt off. they also soften the banging of a shoulder slung rifle stock off the grip.

Hadn't thought of that! Great suggestion also as I can see myself using it on some hikes and camping excursions. Who makes those?

I greatly appreciate all the replies and suggestions! You folks are the best! :s0155: Right now, it is a toss up between the Mernicle and El Paso Saddlery.
