Here's a pistol that you probably haven't thought of…..

I mean if the money is burning a hole in your pocket…. 👍

I faced a similar dilemma a few years ago. Here is how I solved it:
Sadly the CZ P97 has been discontinued, but the Rock Island Rock Ultra FS is still available.

Thats good and valuable info thank you

I do love to tinker, but knowing girsan has a less than stellar warranty system doesnt sound as reassuring.

Okay so todays rankings:
-Leo p226 with a rail (cant find any at $500 anymore)
-Cz whatever either tanfoglio, i get real lucky with a used sp-01 or maybe gamble with a surplus
-tisas double stack
-tisas single stack with a rail.

Never once in my life did I need someone's assistance picking out a pistol. Next, someone is going to buy a pistol and ask if I will shoot it for them.
I would be happy with any one of my choices. But i have no experience with any of them which is why im here. This is also my last good purchase before 114 so im trying to make the most of it.

Its like how my wife asks me whats a good car instead of just going out and buying a dammed kia.

(Edit: i think girsan is kia in this scenario, so im glad i asked)

My wife and I took out a sizable amount of money from our IRA's for firearms and mags before this permit crap and mag ban happens. I am almost done. Thankfully we are retired and don't have too many bills.

After I'm done with the guns, I am stacking ammo and canned food and TP and water. Just in case we survive the "Big One". We can't bug out, so we will bug in.

None of the above. Glock is always the correct answer.
Way back when, it was big news that Glock finally released a 45ACP. Hmm?
Maury's Gun Rack on the corner of Woodstock and 82nd was a great, old school gun shop and they stocked a good selection of handguns.
I went in and low and behold, they had this new unicorn. I was all giggly until I took ahold of it. Then I was sad. It felt like I'd picked up a 2x4, and I don't mean a 1.5x3.5!
A double stack 1911 was a better answer even in 1990. :s0114:

After much internal debate, i went with the tisas ds carry for $512 shipped.

Thanks for yalls help, im sure id be happy with any of them but im feeling good about the tisas

I bought Girsan 1911 because it had the feature set I wanted at the price point I was looking for. I also went into it knowing full well of the potential risk of buying a Turkish gun.

I don't plan on putting a ton of rounds through it, but so far it has been 100% reliable (300 fmj and 50 Fed HST). Time will tell if I bought a turd or not….

There are some 1911s that are a very good value for what they COST. I'll use my RIA as an example. I believe it to be an EXCELLENT value for the $379 I paid and compared to a 'well known' 1911 name a friend of mine recently bought (for approx twice the price) it is as good, and in my estimation maybe a bit better because my RIA has a steel frame and his is alloy.
The guy's got his new gun, my comments are probably redundant. But I couldn't pass up mentioning an RIA that I have. It was in my pal Dave's stuff when that came my way. Along with another RIA, both .45's. There were a bunch of Colts (the "Real Deal") so I had no intention of keeping the two RIA's. One was blued, no markings of any kind on the slide, the frame just said RIA, a serial number and 1911A1. This one had the higher serial number. The other gun was Parkerized, looked mostly like an army pistol, had a nice RIA logo and markings on one side of the slide, just a nicer looking gun all around, with a lower serial number. It is not marked 1911A1. I didn't know they made two completely different looking guns with the same basic features. They were made circa 2006-07, early days. Anyway, both guns had new looking stainless steel barrels marked SA (Springfield Armory Inc), which leads me to believe Dave replaced the original RIA barrels for whatever reason.

The reality of used guns is, RIA's typically don't bring a lot. I sold the (to me) less desirable RIA on Gunbroker for $275 after a few weeks. I had it in auction mode for a while, no action, then listed it at fixed price and eventually it sold. I see used RIA's in the closed auction listings at GB, but mostly they are no sales. Dealers that sell at scale, have professional photos, and take credit cards can get $400. Sometimes. I was glad to get $275 to move it along.

However, I'm keeping the other RIA. The one that looks like an army gun. Which I did not originally intend on doing. For a couple of reasons. (1) It's a good shooting gun, I can do well with it. (2) I just don't feel like giving it away for anything like $275 or $300. Because I can shoot the heck out of it without thinking twice, saving wear and tear on a more valuable gun.

It's got an interesting wide spur hammer such as I've never seen before.
