Well, im stuck in a feedback loop and cant decide which gun i want so i need yalls help.

Ive never had a hammer fired pistol so ive got my heart set on a big heavy (ideally steel) hammer fired gun. But ive only got $500ish to spend so im mostly looking at clones.

Ive been lusting for a tanfoglio combat, steel frame full sized but i dont have any cz experience and never held one until 5 min ago when i fiddled a cz75 and a sar2000. They feel great in the hand but i was slightly less impressed with the trigger than i hoped.

A single stack 1911 in 45 would be sweet, 114 proof which is handy however that goes. But i dont have any 45 so id be stocking a new, and more expensive round.

Girsan 2311 seem great for the price but they seem lighter than i hoped for and im not sure on their reliability or longevity. Also 2011 mags are damn expensive.

Then i played with a beretta 92x cause they didnt have any cheap ones on hand. It felt nice, the best trigger but its sao and the nicer model so i expect it to be a nice trigger. I didnt feel the trigger on the 1911/2311 but have always heard great things about 1911 triggers.

sorry for the longwinded ramble

Go with a RIA 9mm 1911 FS. $379 online at Bi Mart and delivered to a store near you!

OR if you DO want to go with a .45 they have the GI version RIA for $299 now.

With laws coming our way, perhaps get one of the pistols that you may not be able to get standard capacity mags to (anything above 10 rounds). I figure the sub 10 round guns or models of pistols that have a decent 10 rounds magazine market will still be readily available post law changes.

Not to doom and gloom anything.. but it's cool to have it before any legislation changes your ability to obtain things you want.

I'm fairly certain the 1911 is "ban safe" in that regard. (For Oregon).

If you don't have a CZ75 or CZ75 clone I'd get on that. Those guns are solid and many share the same parts.. so any fixes or customization is easy.

The Girsan 92 clone is cool, but depending on its price (some have been high $300-$400 at some online retailers) I'd opt to get a genuine Beretta 92.

I have no experience with the (2311) aka "2011" clones.. they seem really cool though.. but I'm not sure how proprietary their designs and parts are.. So if that model goes belly up or the manufacturer discontinues it.. that could be a pain to get parts for. But again I'm unfamiliar with the 2011 clones..
Early days of CZ clone stuff sort of had that issue.. now it's not much of a problem.

I look forward to what you decide on.

Thanks for the ideas yall!

Ive been skimming the classifieds hard but i think id really want something with a light rail. Im thinking something good for bedside but also a nice soft shooter at the range. So if any of you wants to tag me in classifieds feel free

@roseberger, i think its easier if you just dropped the price for poor folk like me! Haha

So it sounds like yall are as torn as i am. Im leaning towards the tanfoglio but im waiting around in case a different good deal pops up in the classifieds. Ive got a line of the tanfoglio for $509 out the door. Other local options (ive kinda seen mentioned) are bimarts deals, they have a girsan 1911 45 with a rail for $400 or a girsan 92 with a rail and threaded barrel for $380. But i dont have experience with any girsan, or hell any 92 for that matter. And i only shot a 1911 once about 15 years ago and all i know is i need a beavertail cause those suckers bite me.

And because it bears mentioning, Glock is great but damn are they boring.

Also this maybe a dumb question. Are all berettas aluminum? Did they make any steel framed ones that can be found around $500ish?

The one thing i noticed with the 92 i held today was how light it was compared to the others. I imagine if i had one pistol, it would be that. But i dont, and already have lighter pistols so im actually wanting something heavier.

Steel frame 92s with a rail are only going to be newer, more expensive models.

I went 6 pages deep on handguns just now, and that railed frame criteria is going to make your quest difficult.
Plenty of good deals out there. Unfortunately, none hit all your goals.
