Re. domestic firearms manufacturers, here is a cutting of an AI analysis on Google:

"The number of U.S. firearm manufacturers fluctuated, peaking around 738 businesses in early 2025, up from the low 400s in the early 2000s, while overall production surged dramatically, nearly tripling from 3.9 million guns in 2000 to over 11.3 million in 2020, driven largely by handgun demand for self-defense. The industry saw significant growth, with production peaking around 2016 and remaining high through 2021, though fluctuating yearly with consumer fears and market shifts. "

I had an idea that the number of manufacturers had increased in the past 25 years. Lots of newer names. And expansion of product lines. For example, I noticed recently that there are contemporary handguns branded Mossberg and Savage. I don't have the numbers at hand, but I recall reading that in this same period the number of makers of AR rifle designs had exploded, as the Clinton ban ended in the early 2000's. The competition from this development has driven the prices down over time. There is such a thing as market saturation, you can only make and sell X number of things until your own success eventually reduces demand.

Well, im stuck in a feedback loop and cant decide which gun i want so i need yalls help.

Ive never had a hammer fired pistol so ive got my heart set on a big heavy (ideally steel) hammer fired gun. But ive only got $500ish to spend so im mostly looking at clones.

Ive been lusting for a tanfoglio combat, steel frame full sized but i dont have any cz experience and never held one until 5 min ago when i fiddled a cz75 and a sar2000. They feel great in the hand but i was slightly less impressed with the trigger than i hoped.

A single stack 1911 in 45 would be sweet, 114 proof which is handy however that goes. But i dont have any 45 so id be stocking a new, and more expensive round.

Girsan 2311 seem great for the price but they seem lighter than i hoped for and im not sure on their reliability or longevity. Also 2011 mags are damn expensive.

Then i played with a beretta 92x cause they didnt have any cheap ones on hand. It felt nice, the best trigger but its sao and the nicer model so i expect it to be a nice trigger. I didnt feel the trigger on the 1911/2311 but have always heard great things about 1911 triggers.

sorry for the longwinded ramble
A Girsan Regard is a Beretta 92 clone and is under $500. You can also get used Beretta 92's for under $500. I like Kimber 1911's, but they're over $500. Other 1911 budget clones sell for under $500. I also like the Magnum Research Baby Eagle (similar to a CZ 75). Used Baby Eable's can be purchased for near $500 - new ones are more expensive.

Kinda sorta,

But i went with the tisas ds carry, a 4.25" 9mm double stack "2011". I think its great.
