Welcome.

Cool little town. Stayed in the Elf house a few years back.
I would pass thru on my way to Eielson AFB while working for a DOD contractor on base. Mostly flat area with small trees. I remember the highway from Fairbanks had frost heave.

For a while I also rented an apartment nearby (stupid neighbors would party past midnight during the summer because it was light out - probably AF enlisted).

Yeah. You know us enlisted folks are trash.
My first night on station (Yaquina Bay CG station) I was assigned a hot rack and a SN came in drunk (probably kicked out of the house by his wife), woke me up about midnight, giving me grief for some unknown reason, and all the others (including the OOD) just ignored him and pretended to be asleep. The next day the master chief gave him a lecture in his office.

Everybody was enlisted there - and it was like a very dysfunctional family. Now they have commisioned officers and a much larger crew.

My first permanent station (Kennewick ATN - I lateraled to Newport so I could be closer to my daughter) had a couple of dopers that were constantly getting into trouble - one was stoned on duty one night and took a dump in a sink instead of the toilet. I told the OOD I wasn't going to clean it up (part of my duties was to clean the head) and he made the stoner clean it up.

Welcome! Of all the places on Earth, I have been considering moving to "North Pole, Alaska"! Fairbanks, too. But North Pole caught my eye. You'll love it in this forum. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people in here.

North Pole is a suburb of Fairbanks, located along the Richardson Hwy, half way between Ft Wainwright and Eielson AFB.

It's been 40 years since I was there, but then it was not a suburb (which is adjacent to a larger city), it was a separate little community that was separate from Fairbanks - kind of like the city (Newberg) near where I live now (between Newberg & Scholls). Maybe the two have grown considerably?

Perhaps a better term would be bedroom community. The greater majority of people who reside in the 99705 zip code do not earn their living there.
Many people that reside within the 99705 zip code, myself included, do not actually live in the town of North Pole, but still have a North Pole mailing address.
