Hello from Florida. :)

I joined the site because I saw a number of folks had mentioned a firearms-related web site I built last year in a recent thread, and I wanted to reach out and say thanks. I am not from the Northwest, but my family grew up in the area, and lived in Portland for many years.

Some of you may recognize call letters KGW. That is my granddad Bill on the piano, pictured as a member of the Oregonian Trailblazers on KGW radio, approximately 1932:

I picked up a gun for the first time about 10 years ago, when I decided I wasn't going to be a victim. I've taken a few courses, and dabble in USPSA and GSSF, but my main goal these days is to stay off YouTube. I am more of a lurker than a poster, so don't plan to post a lot, but I am interested in learning more about the perspective of those of you who live in the area.

Welcome.
I'm originally from the south, transplanted myself in the Pacific Northwest for almost 40 years and had enough of it and just returned home to the Florida panhandle this year.
The only valuable tip I can give you for the PNW is to keep your head on a swivel, but then again, that is a universal trait that we all should at all times.
Oh, stay out of the big cities there, they are wicked.

Well, Sir, I don't 'zackly live in the area, more like 5250 miles away, but I'm very fond of it, particularly the North, south, East, West and middle bits. Apart having a great love for the Coastal Range, and the Cascades, the Steens and the Wallowas, and, of course, the Gorge all the way up to where it takes off Northerly, oh, and all the beaches and adjacent landscapes, and, in spite of all the problems, the city of bridges, I'd like to rest my bones where my spirit can see this every day as the sun comes up...
