Gun Store Recommendations

A buddy of mine died and I need to dispose of some firearms. I cannot transfer these firearms to a Washington resident, due to our messed up state legislators. So, I need to transfer them to some one out of state. I don't know if consignment or sale to a gun store would be best for me. I haven't had time to determine a value. I am working with the estate rep to liquidate his assets. No family.

Here's what I have:

Olympic Arms PCR02 cal .223/5.56
Smith & Wesson MP-15 cal .223/5.56
Springfield Armory M-14 cal .308 (semi-auto)

I need to get rid of these.

Also, a number of Civil War black powder reproductions will be available shortly. Need to determine values.

These can all be sold to neigboring states. You can put them up on the classifieds here, agree on a price, meet in PDX at an FFL, or ship to one. Gunbroker is another option.

some options to sell in-person around Portland—

if you want to get the most money out of these firearms— Adaptive Firing Solutions (AFS) in Oregon City still does consignment sales. I forget what exactly their rate is but I think it is under 20%. You can also post on the Classifieds here, but it can be slow. If you do sell through the classifieds I also suggest AFS as a place to meet for the transfer since 1) their fees are quite low, 2) they are a good shop in general.

if you want to get rid of the firearms fast— take them to somewhere like Northwest Armory Tigard (NOT the Portland location), and at Tigard they will pay you cash 40% of the new price. NW Armory Tigard is (to me) the best shop in town that will also take almost anything.

As an absolute last resort the Bass Pro Shops or a pawn shop. These will usually take them but will lowball you into oblivion.

Dan Anderson FFL. in the Tigard area, but does work with folks in Vancouver.
Specializes in estate firearms, super easy to deal with and very honest.
I've dealt with him a lot and is highly recommended by a lot of folks.

Why not use Sporting Systems? Dan routinely answers questions on this site and most importantly, he's heavily involved into turning these crazy laws.

Note: Someone on here posted ATF rules on law regarding transferring between states; the purchaser has to go through both states laws. In this regard, the purchaser has a 10 day wait period. I don't know if that applies to only WA citizen but something to look into.

Sporting Systems was my first stop. They told me that the firearms cannot be transferred to a WA resident & that they would have to be sold out of the state.

That is accurate, but they can be 'transferred' to a WA FFL who can facilitate the out of state sale
