Glock Generation???s

This may have been on here already and I did try a search but to no avail.

Can someone please explain to me how to determine which Generation Glock I may be looking at?

Is there Identifying marks or styling to look for, etc?

First Gen: No finger grooves, no light rail.
Second Gen: Changed texture pattern.
Third Gen: Added finger grooves and a light/accessory rail.
Fourth Gen: Added changable back-strap. Limited model availability (I think just the 17 and 22 right now).

Other variations have shown up, including two generations of "rough texture frames" and the SF models (I believe at this time all of the RTF and SF models are third generation). There has always been options in different sights and some of the newer models have also offered extended controls, such as the slide release, and ambidextrous mag release...

Gen 4 looks like Gen 3 and adds three different sized removable / replaceable Back Straps. The Slide internals are different as well.
