Everytime I see the G17L I laugh. It just looks out of place. I think this is just a competition pistol.
I heard the gen 4 had issues so they tried to fix them on the gen 5. But there are still issues with the plates so you have to get different plates and screws.

Now the glock 34 is the competition gun, or a 17 with a Comp.It's too long for most competitions, lol.
I'd like to have a 24 with a threaded .357 sig barrel.The 24 gets used by a couple folks in USPSA. That's the 40 cal version of the 17L.
I've used mine a time or two and it's a lot of fun! Folks look at it and go "What the hell is that?"

I have a g22 with 6" .357 sig threads barrel. Just would like to get a g35 or g24 for a more balanced look.
