Yeah, it's the tennifer finish, but some of the Gen 3's have the glossy almost textured-looking finish that gets referred to as the "frying pan" finish, and then some are the chalky flat grey finish.

Yeah, I've seen them in Gen 4 configuration as well, the Gen 4 grip texture just chafes my poor sensitive love handles, lol

Absolutely nothing other than personal preference. I just think they look great, and they're harder to find.
