Anyone ever chopped one side of the ambi slide release off their Gen 5 Glock? If so, does it affect reliability. As a left handed shooter I hate having the slide release on the RH side of the gun and ideally would like to delete it.

My high grip impedes the function of the gun at times. Kagwerks fixes this but i am kinda over spending $50+ on every Glock for that tiny part, when i could just cut one side off for free.

I can always buy an OEM one and chop it to see. Just thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks in advance.

I dont think it would hurt anything, though im guessing its made from hardened steel and wont be easy to cut. Will need to grind it off then will need a stone to remove the burrs and round the sharp corners. I would try to avoid removing the ledge that catches the slide itself...

That's what I was thinking as well. Just cutting the tab off that overhangs the frame. But leaving everything else.

I think it can be done and would work, but don't think it will be easy as it looks.
Im guessing it will need to be ground off, youd need a small parts vise clamp.
And a good set of eyes :)

Ahh I'm not too worried about that. I am pretty comfortable cutting on frames and smaller parts now. I have a dremel so I'm basically a gun smith. The internet says so. Haha.

If it doesn't work a replacement isn't expensive. I'm curious what your results are as I have the same issues.

Do you have issues with the regular one or just "extended" versions like on the 34? I switched my 34 slide release with my 19 and solved the problem for me.

Just checked several of my Gen 5 Glocks and not a single one (34, 19, 19x, 47, 17L, 44 and 21) has the right side of the slide release in contact with the slide at full lock. So while there is a cut out and it looks like it'd function from the right side, I'm 100% convinced you can chop off as much of that side as you want with no effect on your pistol whatsoever. It does quite literally nothing on my pistols.

Chopped.

That should do it.

So your the first left handed I know that doesn't like the left handed lever...

My support hand traps the lever so the slide never locks back on the last round. That's the only reason I purchased the Kagwerks was to get it out of my way. Now I can just do it for free. Haha

I can relate. On my "glock" builds my thumb wants to rest on the slide lever often locking it back in recoil. Its taking me a while to undo years of a 1911 grip hold... I even thought about grinding that levers tab off since I dont use them anyways.

Make me the second. Too used to doing it the "right handed" way with my left hand that the lefty bits just get in the way

Same. I've never owned a lefty gun and barely even one with ambi controls so yeah….dont need the extra tit. The righties won a long time ago. :D

So 3 "non-ambi" lefties here? :)

Reminds me of when I "finally" got an ambi 1911 only to discover I didnt like it with my left hand shooting. Not that I practice enough off hand like I should. :/
I should probably learn to drop the slide lock with my off hand now that I think about it.

More like 3 ambi lefties if we really want to be technical. :D

Growing up in a world based on right handed people you pretty much get so used to it that most lefties I know are at least partially ambidextrous. Not by choice mind you LOL. I have met a few REALLY left handed people as well.
