This is a great rod - for steelhead fishing - but I use my 8 weights more for bass fishing, and this rod is not great for how I'm fishing for bass. If you're a steelhead fisherman, and like nymphing, you will appreciate the extra 6" of rod length for mending and reaching a bit further. You can throw a shooting head like the OPST Commando or Rio Skagit Max Short on here with a sink tip and swing wets - don't need a spey rod for swinging up fish.
