Anybody a member of another gun based - forum but the differences in nearly all aspects make it almost a complete 'antithesis' of THIS forum?

I (like many) have been a member of many forums over the years but only active on two at this point - this one and another I have been a member of since about 2004.

While personalities, opinions and beliefs may differ with many on THIS forum MOST posts are relatively clear, in context AND for the most part with proper spelling, grammar, etc. Also most who respond to posts either QUOTE who, or what they are responding to, OR describe it in manner that makes sense. Also, overall there is a general element of 'respect' between most members here as well.

The 'older' forum I am a member of is dramatically different. Posts are often composed very poorly with improper spelling, little to no 'quoting' with unclear responses, or someone quoting or responding in an entirely different thread than the one with the subject matter they 'thought' they were responding to. Proofreading and correcting spelling seems to be an unknown concept with many. Also a LOT of posts will contain derogatory, judgmental or racist comments the member was either unaware of, or did not care, and this is in SPITE of this forum displaying a very 'moral' and 'religious' undertone. I have reported MANY posts like this to the moderators who either missed, didn't notice or care.

No biggee. Just some thoughts on the differences between the two I was thinking about while 'flipping' between them this morning!

I am a member of two other gun forums, and two more local outdoor forums. In the past couple of years, NWFA has had more activity. One of the other local gun boards has become more of a club, with the same people posting. I do enjoy this forum, and try to chime in if I think it won't detract from the thread.

A big part of the differences I described COULD be due to the 'demographics' of the forums.

This forum is largely in part PNW based and there is a certain 'Relatability' among most of the members.

The other forum has members all over the US however the majority are Midwest, East Coast and Southern areas.

No chime is a distraction :)

Hkpro forum is full of sanctimonious stuck up pricks mostly. But there are some normal people on there also and also some helpful people. I woudl say 1 out of 4? Posts is short down there. They just disappear. One time I saw "we are not here to discuss where to get good deals" from a moderator and the thread was closed.

I'm on about 12-gun forums, mostly left over from being an active buyer, but other than 2 SKS boards no platform specific because of the know -it-all attitudes I encountered as a lurker (HK, AR, AK). Some sites like Nevada Shooters & Caguns (kinda) are more related to private sales and often don't have many interesting discussions occurring. The marketplace dominates most posts. PAX

The only one I have a desktop icon for is NWFA. Over the past 25 years or better, I've been a member of several. The most active one that I formerly engaged in was a Milsurp forum. It bifurcated due to internal differences and then slowly died.

I was a so-so active member on the CMP site, but after while, you can only discuss the same thing over and over so many times and still find it interesting.

When I look at my passwords book, I see several milsurp forums that I've been a member of in which I've gone inactive. I think many of these are moribund or dead now, a natural result of the winding down of the low cost side of that hobby. And there are several reloading forums on my list, like Castboolits, Handloads.com (dead), Reloadersnest (dead?), and others.

I've tried to like WA Guns. I've attempted to engage there, and tried posting a couple of ads, it was utter futility. The picture posting protocol was inhumane. I'd like it if this was not so, because it could be a decent place for those of us who might like a more Washington-centric forum.

At one time, I was on The High Road; I'm still signed up on Greybeard but post there very seldom.

I've only got so much of me to go around. Accordingly, I spend my online visiting time where I enjoy it the most. Right here. In spite of the few knuckleheads who just like to argue or show how clever they are with bad taste "humor."

I'm on SWFA . . .
