When is it too much? Sounds silly, but really. I now keep a checklist to ensure I am using them all. No, not giving any away . Therapy? lol. Every time I think I find the last one needed for collection another finds its way home. I'm thinking I should just give my pay check to the wife. There must be others that have experienced this? Went from 1 to 20 in 5yr.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a continually growing collection, as long as you have the income to support that hobby, and as long as that hobby brings you joy.

A few years back I realized that I didn't actually want to be a gun collector, and that I was buying more and more guns not to further my "collection" and instead because I wanted that nice feeling that came along with getting a new toy. That's when I decided to stop purchasing guns I didn't actually have a use for, and at the same time started selling off some of the guns I had but never really used or even took out of the safe.

So far I've been happy with that desicion, and it came along with the added benifit of allowing me to purchase way more ammunition for the guns I have, which then leads to more range time!

It took you that long?

I would say if you have all you other financial priorities in order then add to your collection until your hearts content.

I followed a different path and just recently got out of debt at 49 years of age and have less than $2000 in retirement savings. I am not blaming it all on firearm related purchases but it has definitely been a huge part of my spending during the last decade or more.

I agree 100% and shopping for the next gun gives a dopamine rush. It's like an addiction for some.

I went from none to 80 in 6 years along with two safes and thousands of rounds of ammo. I've since whittled it down to about 65 I think & use an Excel spreadsheet to record all of the pertinent info. I realized I have a lot of them I'll never fire so I'm whittling down my stock & have already posted in 3 in Handgun Classifieds. More to follow.

What do have to sell?

I'm at the semi beginning stage. I think I need to change my friends to go from having the most number of guns to have the least amount.

I still feel a little guilty when acquiring another firearm but that feeling soon fades away.

If you are a collector, then there is always something that can be added to the collection. It is endless.
I am not a collector. I buy guns because I think they would be fun to shoot. I now have most all categories covered and stopped buying. At least for now. I am sure another fun one will come along later though.

Yes, it's called "Retail Therapy", and I've certainly been guilty of it. It's not just "gun people"; it's everyone, a common American addiction. "A new toy will make me happy!"

I've been buying guns off and on for 30 years. On the plus side, I often spent my money on guns rather than alcohol and girls when I was younger, as compared to my friends, but I wish I had had the foresight to have put it in the stock market instead.

Good point. Truth be told, I bought a DW Pointman 38 Super on Thursday and I woke up this morning and bought a Kodiak. Boom! This time I'm done.
