One uses what works and even if it was legal to use a 22-250 I do not have enough faith in that cartridge for elk.. Heck I am not a fan. Of the 243 for deer. I guess it's just my opinion.

What is a 'pile of deer' and why did you have to 'remove' them?
Mainly crop damage, odfw has changed alot of stuff in the last 10 years. It's less needed now than in the early 2000s....it wasn't uncommon to remover 20+ a night in cherry orchards. All the meat was donated to the homeless shelters. Alot of states use the agency I worked for to do population control on white tail and those guys remove thousands a year

So who gutted out the deer, cleaned and skinned them, and processed the meat for donation?
I did....it's not easy work. I got my gut job down to less than 2 min a deer. Alot of times the union gospel mission would take them whole and skinned. Other times they would go to a custom butcher shop to be processed. Same with bears

The 17 HMR is my go to for sage rats, and always a joy to shoot.

My dad has a .17 Fireball that we've taken in a few trips, and its terminal effects are very impressive. No guessing if you hit them when a 20gr bullets is going 4,200fps. Body flies 20 to the left, and the head flies 30 to the right. It's an absolute hoot to shoot.

.17 bmg for the win

17 HMR: Flatter, more splat, less prone to ricochet than 22 LR.

243 Win: I use the 70gr Ballistic Tip for chucks and coyotes. Shoots real flat, lots of splat, and you don't get any spinners.

20 GA: Use it on raccoons when I get them up a tree.

Old School .222 Rem 40-X, .223 Hart Barreled Rem 700. Win Mod 70 Varmint HB in .243 Win. Springfield 03 chambered in 6.5X55 Swede, another Springer in 6.5X7mm Mag. Loves me some Hot 6.5 nasties!

I have a 6.6x55 on a 1903 springfield, a 6.5-06AI on a 1970 mark x mauser and a 264wm on a 1955 commercial FN mauser. To me they are excellent dear and antelope rifles. I do not think I will use them for varmints.
