Favorite turkey loads?

On a recent foray into the mystery box in upper shed, I found another box of 10-gauge ammunition.* Surprising, as I found ten-bore turkey loads and some 00 buck whilst in there previously and had reckoned that was the last of it.

Serendipitous discovery aside, it got me to thinking of this question: what are some of your favorite loads for turkey hunting and why? Thanks.

Ok, so I've never hunted for turkey but any box with a turkey on it I'm guessing will work just fine.

It's a turkey, not a rhino.

65 -70 grains of 2F and an equal amount of shot....usually #4 or #5 shot

Get em close and it doesn't really matter. You don't need the 10$ a shot stuff, any 2 3/4 lead 4 or 5 shot

I don't hunt "Wild Turkeys" anymore. My first hunt was my last hunt. I got two, but they were like trying to eat a turkey flavored boot.

Now I hunt, "Butter Balls" in Safeway, it's a lot more sporting but the last time I fired a shot in there, they threw me out of the store.

Have you tried wild turkey? Try that first then The wild turkeys arnt bad!

Well any of the above is great way to get loaded....

In my 12ga. I like #4 shot with cylinder or Improved.

I used my Winchester 12ga., SS Marine riot gun with a 32" full choke barrel I purchased on e-bay. #4 shot did the job, but try to get a 32" barrel out of the front seat of a jeep in a hurry.

I use Kent ultimate turkey diamond shot because it's the only non steel 3.5" 12ga I can reliably find and it works pretty well. So far it's been 1 shot 1 kill since I started using it in my Mossberg 535.

Unless you're killing multiple turkeys per .22, I don't see how it can work any better... I mean, if you're trying to limit collateral damage I suppose...

I didn't shoot them with a 22......but I wanted to. They are hard on berries and new seedings. Responsible hunters are hard to find and we have hundreds of turkeys

Yeah, it's true. I had to stop turkey hunting with an individual because they would shoot them on the road. Not next to it, or just off it... On it. That's a big ol no no and I refuse to cause that much of a safety issue to kill a bird. He also shot one out of a tree... On someone's driveway. We do not know who's driveway... I always insisted that they be well off the roadway with a good backstop/clear view of what's behind or I wasn't shooting it. He shot more turkeys than I did but he also got chased down by a raging homeowner at one point.

I manage 2800 acers of farm ground in the Willamette valley and they are becoming a real problem. We killed a few toms this spring but can't even make a dent in them

I know someone that uses a .204 Ruger on crop eating Turkeys. He makes a pretty good Jerky out of them.

I wish we could hunt turkeys with rifles here in Washington.
I have a few that would make for a fun and accurate rifle to do so with.

Even my .22 CO2 pellet rifle would be good to go at Turkey ranges.
