Thanks for sharing. :)

Not just specifically hunting, he does have humorous stories for most outdoor related activities- Patrick McManus

I'm currently reading Zach Bowman - Mountain Drifter, hunting camp adventures from Wyomings Thorofare…. It is excellent and I can't recommend enough!

Steven Rinella — "American Buffalo." It is a good read.
CJ Box. Joe Pickett Series. Ok it's a mystery series not a hunting one, but Joe Pickett is a Game Warden. So there's that.
And even though I'm well past it, a youth spent reading Jim Kjelgaard (Big Red and more) got me interested in the outdoors from the start.

I enjoyed Robert Ruark's hunting stories. His other work, not so much. The Old Man and the Boy is a collection of magazine articles he wrote and is probably my favorite book. I read it every five or so years. Use Enough Gun and Horn of the Hunter are good as well.

No offense to @VinneBoomBah....

Milek is a good read.

Saint Elmer Keith....Ehhhh.....no...no and no.
If I want to read about handguns or revolvers....then sure.

Keith's views on rifles....were very self centered....biased...and he did not learn from experience or grow with the times.
His dislike of the .30-06 for example.
I understand that when he started writing choices of bullets for the .30-06 were limited...and not very effective.
However....
Saying that the .30-06 ain't no good for big game well into the 1960's and later....is very wrong.
Since bullet design had come a long way from the 1930's

Never said Elmar was right, just that I enjoyed his writings :) And even back in the day Milek was well know to be a better shot with his Underwood than any of his XP-100's

Well...enjoy his writing..
No matter who or how well they write...if they ain't well versed or balanced on the subject they are writing about...
I won't read it...or care for it...or value their opinion.

Peter Hathaway Capstick on hunting in Africa, shooting his favorite .375 H&H Magnum (which he contended would bring down any and all African beasts, if one could shoot accurately) while later enjoying a mopani wood campfire while slugging down an adult beverage...

Thomas McGuane.

His collection of sport essays in "An Outside Chance" is still one of my favorite reads with the chapter "The Heart of the Game" being especially meaningful to me. Plus, his subjects extend beyond just hunting. Old cowboys, old dogs, old horses, and old men.

I like the Pickett series as well. Another decent game warden series is the Mike Bowditch (Maine game warden) series by Paul Doiron.

This book sounds good.

"In March of 1896, the Ndebele people revolted against the authority of the British South Africa Company to initiate what is known as the Second Matabele War, or First Chimurenga, one of many conflicts in the long embattled history of what is now Zimbabwe."

I like our Northwest area writers. Ted Trueblood of Napa, Idaho wrote for Field and Stream for many years. Ed Parks from Oregon wrote for many different outdoor magazines.
