Howdy,
My buddy just got me hooked on fly fishing over the weekend, we went out in the Tillamook area and were just gunning down fish on an orange drake we brought. I'm about to buy my first rod and start going as a regular thing. Curious if anyone has any favorites for flies and gear for fishing in northern OR / southern WA?

Depends on the river, time of year, etc. Without getting too technical, I'd carry several of the following:
1) elk hair caddis size 14, 16, 18
2) comparadun, or any good mayfly imitation, 14, 16, 18
3) Stimulator, size 8, 10, 12

That will cover pretty much everything dry in Oregon and N California.

Attractor patterns work well for streams with cutties in them. Humpeys, wolfs, parachute adams in all colors. Look up some tricoptera patterns, which should be a big thing in the cascades about now and in a month along the coast. Toss them a meal!

Red Humpies for inland cutthroat. Dry fly. Have not tried them for coastal cutthroat.
Parachute Adams seem to work will on the Deschutes. Another dry Fly. Easier for the fisherman to see than a regular Adams.
Deadliest wet fly/nymph I've used is a Copper John. Trout also go for Copper Johns tied with chartreuse colored wire.
I don't normally fly-fish for bass but once had good luck using black woolly buggers, a type of streamer.

If you get into tying your own (why aren't you?) this YouTube channel has some neat flies. Mainely Flies
