My father invited to our neighbors house, the neighbor then invited my father into his garage where his dog dwelled, there is no signs posted about his dog being aggressive,I'll mannered,or protective.
My father spent about 30 seconds in the garage and the dog was jumping and snapping at him the dog is an XL breed akita my father is rather frail due to his medical conditions and was worried about falling . He attempted to make his way out of the garage and out of the situation when the dog jumped up and bit his arm! First bite was decently deep and second one was only minor. What do you think we should do? we definitely know he's going to have to get a Tetanus shot! He's 66 and has compermised immune system and I'm worried about infection! I'm a dog lover and obviously don't want any I'll will twords the pup

Hey arakboss can you elaborate?
He was injured on their property, so assuming the neighbor was insured, the insurance company will ultimately be responsible for the medical bills and possibly other compensation. I am not an Atty, but I did watch Perry Mason reruns as a kid:)

Hope your dad recovers quickly.

Edit: I am not suggesting your Dad will have to sue. But if the bills are substantial and the injury is long lasting the neighbor might not be willing or able to cover the cost. It will be a difficult conversation to have with the neighbor, especially if they are goods friends. If the neighbor tries to shift blame to your Dad in some way, then it's more likely he'll want an Atty.

You have to report this to the police / Animal Control.

You cannot know if this dog has already bitten others.

Resolve the money issue with the neighbors like adults, hopefully not involving a court.

I concur and he needs to eliminate rabies too (unlikely) from the situation. Court case will ruin any positive relationship he had with neighbors.

Akita's are another one of the "dangerous breeds" that insurance companies have identified. If the dad files a claim with the neighbor's homeowner's insurance company, they may deny the claim since the neighbor likely didn't disclose to them that he owned an Akita. At the least, they will pay out, then either cancel the policy or raise premiums significantly.

When I was a youngster we had an Alaskan Malamute. It jumped through a less than 2x2 glass window on our garage door to chase down a kid walking home from school. Some dogs are just destined for trouble.
