For those running a factory 10/22 with tapered sporter barrel, what budget ($.10 or less per rnd) ammo does your rifle shoot the tightest groups with? Hoping there is a consensus on one commonly available type that shoots well for many.

Edit: I will be shooting groups at 50yds so HV ammo is likely OK.

For my 10/22 I have bought the following ammo:

Remington Ranch Hand .22lr 40gr 100 per box from Cabela's.

Remington Golden Bullet .22lr 36gr 525 rounds per box from Cabela's.

Federal 325 round brick .22lr Bulk 40gr Lead rounds.

I can hit a silhouette at 25 yards with all of them. I may buy an inexpensive scope at some point.

I have shot the tightest group with CCI 40gr AR Tactical, but the most constant has been CCI 36gr Mini Mag HP.

I did a little ammo testing at 50 yards from rest a little over a year ago. (I gave away my 10-22 years ago to my son's girlfriend at the time :( ). So I use my CZ -455's.

For cheap ammo, I like Federal Auto Match. It tends to run reliably in autoloaders. The CZ's benefit from more expensive stuff, but I refuse to pay over $.20 per round. So far, SK Standard Plus is what I use for 100 yard matches, with Norma TAC-22 not too far behind.

Found another old 50 yard target ammo test with some cheaper ammo versus SK Standard in my CZ. And yes, the lowest left corner is a 5 shot group. Never again repeated.

I don't know for sure if all of the links are still active. I like to use the "Target 22LR 20xHybridClear.pdf" for the majority of my scoped Ruger 10/22 tests.

Like for example.

From an old post of mine.

Try this free web sight for free targets..

Look and pick over the many offerings. Click and it'll download a pdf file to the target that you have selected. Then print it up. I usually print up only one example. Then, I'll take that one target to the printer place (that has a Xerox machine). Using the Xerox machine is a lot cheaper and faster vs. using printer ink.

I use this free web sight for printable rifle (and pistol) targets.

The SR-1 NRA, SR-21NRA and MR-31c NRA......are usually used for the practice of a 100 yard reduced hi-power match course. I usually print them up on standard white paper and when placed out at the 100 yard range, the scoring rings will roughly simulate shooting the hi-power course without the access to a real 600 yard range.

Of course, because they have large black centers......they could also be used for pistol range targets too.

Note: being that they are printed on standard paper, they will not have cleanly cut holes when the bullet passes through. I once had my home made printed targets taken to a printer's shop to put them on "proper paper". Though that could be expensive, for just a target.

Enjoy.

Aloha, Mark

PS......I forgot about this web sight that I use to print up "fun targets".

Print up a few extras to give away at the range. I usually have a few of the printed "fly targets" (or stars) in my range bag. Kids usually find them challenging (22LR practice) vs. a standard boring black circle.

It's been a while since I had a 10-22, but there is one thing I remembered about the two I had. They didn't not like a truncated cone bullet, but would shoot round nose bullets pretty accurately.

CCI blaser, CCI std vel, Fed auto match, Norma tac.
All can be had for 7 cents or less a piece, just got a case of auto match for 5.8 cents each.

I've really tried to like...and keep any of the various 10-22 Rifles I have owned.
However...they really just don't do anything for me.

With that said...
I have had the best luck with....

CCI Mini Mags...
CCI Blazer...
Federal Auto Match...
Federal Champion...

And with that said...
.22 Rifles can be finicky ...what works well in one rifle...many be a different story in another rifle..even if the same make and model.
Gotta try 'em out...and find out what works for your rifle.
