I'm not positive which cam is in the BDC dial... but every 7.62 model I've seen has been marked as such on the side where as this one has no markings on the side which is consistent with all of the 5.56mm versions I've seen. So basically my best guess is that it is 5.56 but I can't say for sure.

I think the newer models have a specific bdc set up, but the old 79's never had it (the SAW/MG type optic the US used had a ridiculous christmans tree thing, but the 79s I have seen do not have a drop comp.
