The problem I am having is why would the military do the testing here in the nw forest. What are the reasons for testing? To see how it effects vegetation, animals or animal life. If they want to test it why not go to the sand box and do some good with the testing and get the results at the same time. Why take a chance at destroying the nw.

Relax guys, it's just practice for jamming micro-wave frequency radar installations. Your Aimpoints, Eotechs, HAM radios, and flashlights will be fine.

The whole "enough radiation to cook human eye tissue" only applies if your standing right in front of the emitter. Remember "Radar Range"? Back in WWII that's how micro-wave ovens were "discovered" and invented! ;)

then why the testing

New technology has to be tested somehow. It could be a new design; smaller with more power, maybe being able to pinpoint direct a "jammer beam" at a specific target instead flying over and "whiting out" an entire area, multiple frequencies (and side-bands) simultaneously... Etc.

It may also be they're testing the plane's counter-measure abilities...

then why the testing
New iteration of the HARM warhead sensor package. They are doing it in the forest because they want a significant amount of ground inference from trees, rocks, etc. Basically, the military is setting up a SAM site radar in several spots. US Navy, USMC, and Air Force planes will fly simulated theater penetration (coming feet dry in to an enemy country) and try to let the warheads lock the target. The computer will then run a simulation to see if it can hit the target or not. This is basically first run field testing for the software. As for the "EMP testing" that Clive Lewis was talking about, they are going to fire directed EMPs at the aircraft to see if that will "disrupt" the missile locking software. directed EMP bursts and High Altitude Nuclear detonations are WAYYYYYYY different, but people seem to relate all EMP to Armageddon.

No radiation shooting laser killer stuff.

that seems reasonable
Thank you
