The wink after that sentence meant I was messing with you and that you should not take offence. I have owned a Ford pickup. It was a 67 F100 with a 300 straight six.
No offense!

It's pretty difficult to suggest to someone to go from owning a Toyota to a Ford. Just trying to explain why they may want to consider it, especially after what happened.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a Tacoma quite a bit smaller than a Tundra?

PS, I own a Tundra and all the Tacoma's I've seen, seem smaller or is my sight judgment off?

Great, another well to do "wine mom" strikes again....
Yeah, it's kind of funny - I've had two cars totaled by drunk drivers. Whenever I tell people about any time it happened, they're like "what was he driving" "how fast was he going" etc. Nope - both times it was white women in their late fifties.

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and good words.

I didn't think we'd feel this bad several days later. I'll post the video at some point down the road; it's pretty wild. We got hit really hard and are lucky to be alive.

As to trucks, the older Tacomas are definitely smaller than the newer one. Personally I prefer it. One of my pet peeves is how utterly HUGE newer pickups are. I've read that there are two main forces driving this size increase. One is fuel mileage standards. Apparently physically larger vehicles aren't required to meet the stricter standards. The second driving force is cultural: a manly man has to drive a BIG truck, the bigger the better. If you're a real manly man, your truck has plastic testicles hanging from the hitch.

Personally I'm all about practicality, and have nothing to prove anymore for being a manly man, so a small truck is perfect for me. When it's all said and done, I'd like to find something very similar to what I had as a replacement. If I can afford it, I'll probably be looking at something a little newer, maybe 15 years old instead of almost 30, and it might be nice to have a little more room - something in the ballpark of a 2010 4-door, 4wd Tacoma. All in all though, I'd much rather just have my old truck back. I know I'm too sentimental, but we had a lot of good memories in that old truck, and I just figured on driving it into old age, or giving it to one of my boys a few years from now. I think my oldest son feels the same way. He was almost in tears looking at it. It's just a truck, but it was a GOOD old truck.

Best wishes for a full and quick recovery.

I posted this photo in the What do you drive thread, but I'll go ahead and put it here too.

The white line on the floor is straight with where the frame of the truck should be. It actually looks worse in person.

We are indeed lucky to be alive. Watching the video closely in slow motion, the other car literally picked my truck up momentarily and pushed us over off the road, straight into a big tree.

Glad y'all are alright. Not many safer trucks to be in than an old Toyota.

Found the all purpose vehicle for @CLT65 :

But also looking at the photo of your truck and your description of the crash it sounds like the car that hit you was pretty low slung and it's nose dipped under your side panel lifting your truck. Good news for that, I would hate to think how it would have come out if it had been a soccer mom in a minivan
This is sort of what I was referencing, yeah. Modern trucks are safer due to their size and safety features, but those old Toyotas are built like tanks. I should have said "not many safer old cars to be in than a Toyota truck."
