if I had to only choose one longgun it'd be a 10/22 with red dot so I could hunt small game and carry enough ammo without hurting my back!

Ahahaha yup! And my Chinese made Steven's 320 shotgun is going to self destruct! AhahaYou all do know that when the Chinese invade, they will use their satellites to close the shutter in all of your Chinese scopes. You will see nothing through the scope.

More scopes are made in the Philippines lately than ChineseYou all do know that when the Chinese invade, they will use their satellites to close the shutter in all of your Chinese scopes. You will see nothing through the scope.

Wow that must be a lot of scopes cuz I would guess they are pumping out Chinese kids like crazy.More scopes are made in the Philippines lately than Chinese
A mini 14 with a collapsible stock isn't going to be "light". But as a Ruger mini enthusiast myself, i can agree with the rest of your post.Well I hope it never comes to that but if I had to take one long gun… probably my mini 14. Currently has a red dot but it's easily removed with an torx driver and the iron sights are good.
I would take it because:
You can carry a lot of 556 ammo
556/223 is pretty common
I can't see caring about anything more than 100 yards away so a scope isn't really a plus.
It's light and with the collapsing stock pretty easy to carry.
I mean I would cry to leave behind my 1963 Sears/Marlin 30/30 that I saved from the scrap heap but sometimes you have to let things go.
Just curious: why a mini 30 instead of, say, an AKM? Maybe not now, but a few years ago I could pick up a Bulgarian SAM7 for the price of a mini 30.A mini 14 with a collapsible stock isn't going to be "light". But as a Ruger mini enthusiast myself, i can agree with the rest of your post.
Mine would be a mini 30 with 2 -7x Nikon P-300 scope. I like the 7.62x39 cartridge better overall.
The mini 14 lacks enough practical accuracy at distance, to take advantage of the 5.56/.223 caliber for hunting, or shooting predators. As much as I like a Mini 14, I think it's most useful role for shtf would be for close range self defense, or a "truck gun" for a farm truck.
The mini 14 does have a great reputation for reliability, and running well for a long time between cleanings. It doesn't crap where it eats, like a DI AR10/15 does.
ACOG here tooACOG's
For me it's the mini 30 is more optics friendly. My older eyes need glass. The Ruger comes with rings, and a mini pic rail if you want to use a dot optic.Just curious: why a mini 30 instead of, say, an AKM? Thanks!
So now we have to worry about The Philippines invading too? I see a new Red Dawn sequel in our future.More scopes are made in the Philippines lately than Chinese
For red dots and holo's Samson makes this slick rail (Hannibal) that's rock solid for all versions of Mini 14's and Mini 30's. It replaces the upper portion of the fixed piston to provide a very secure mount. For me it's the mini 30 is more optics friendly. My older eyes need glass. Also, the Ruger doesn't destroy brass like an AK does.
I have one waiting to be installed. You are however mistaken about how this works. It raplaces the handguard, and because it straps to the barrel, functions as a barrel stiffener and heat sink. It has nothing to do with the fixed piston. The forward portion attaches to, and acts as the upper gas block strap. I don't think I would want to attach an optic to this rail. It is a very efficient at transferring barrel heat, and I would be concerned about cooking the electronics in the dot sight, if I were to do a mag dump. For red dots and holo's Samson makes this slick rail (Hannibal) that's rock solid for all versions of Mini 14's and Mini 30's. If they bring enough Lumpia, they'll be invited right in!So now we have to worry about The Philippines invading too?
Maybe after China snatches them up before heading east.So now we have to worry about The Philippines invading too? I see a new Red Dawn sequel in our future.
