Oh for shame, what if a nice six point were taking a shortcut between the building and your berm when an accidental discharge occurred ???Two story home. On the very rare occurrence a round is being chambered in a gun in this house, bottom floor, pointed at the floor.
I do not unchamber and rechamber ammo in my carry gun unless I have been shooting or cleaning the gun. I clean it in the shop and if needed to chamber a round it's pointed through the sheet metal wall of the building, into the berm beside it.
While I won't say "things can't happen" but I have been handling guns for well over 50 years and have never had a cartridge go off when being chambered. Make sure it's safe direction and chamber the round. If you're really freaking paranoid, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from holding the slide as it returns to battery.

Just kidding.
