Got myself a dash camera awhile back, seems to be getting a lot more use these days, definitely recommend them with more and more happening these days, stuck one in my work van just to capture the people that cause my GPS tracker to go off from sudden braking...

Some old pictures I've screenshot from the videos, the date goes day/month/year I believe.

A crazy guy who pulled a airsoft gun and shot traffic (interesting police take down of that guy), wrong way drivers, plenty of animals including one tonight. The plywood was on last Saturday Morning, only animal hit was the possum...

Camera is very inexpensive, voice activated.

Definitely recommend having a dash camera, good footage from mine helped me track down a truck driver who threw a almost full bottle of Gatorade at my car when I passed him on the hwy, he was lucky it only bent up a light bar instead of smashing a window or lights out...

I've been eyeing the 4k ones that start recording 360 degrees if there is motion anywhere near your vehicle when parked as I keep my dog in there where it isn't hot and I know for sure I will not be gone long.

They are a little more expensive but not compared to a new pistol or something like that and good insurance against all of the crazy drivers that seem to be getting worse and worse.

YEP! Wife and I had a close call bit back. Stopped at light, vehicle in front of me I could see the back up lights on. So I stopped WELL short of her. Wife was asking me why I did that when light turned green and car jumps backward towards us. Driver hit brake, then put car in correct gear. I told Wife that was why I stopped so short. If that gal had backed into me you know full well she would have sworn I ran into her.

Second job there was a smoke shop out that way. Took Wife out there one day I had off to get smokes for her sister. Wife was freaking out at how the people up there on I 5 drove. I said this is like this every damn day out here. Keeps the State Patrol busy. Now after years of them having to watch at people just flip them off and drive away the law finally changes. They can now go after people again. Should be fun to watch for a while.
The morons who came up with the law years ago sold it on the idea it was going to save lives by Cops not being able to do anything. Like every liberal dumb A$$ idea it of course did the exact opposite of what they claimed it would do. Things got FAR worse as anyone with a brain knew it would. Lawmakers of course were refusing to listen till people got an initiative and were going to force it onto a ballot. So lawmakers got scared and undid the law on their own. Will take a while for the morons who for years had free run to learn though of course.

For the general public, there is an important consideration; how good of a driver are you? If you are an above-average driver, cameras are great. Commercial drivers are. These last two groups do not benefit from having a camera in their cars in most cases.

The company found the driver quickly enough and they claimed the driver was quite surprised he got caught...

Dash Cam's are SUPER common now days. For a professional driver to act like that, knowing so many cars now have a camera? They should yank his Commercial paper for at least a year. See if he can control himself a little better after that.

The exact same thing happened to me so I stuck the camera thumb-drive into the big screen TV so I could play it back for her.
After I explained that the lights signified that the vehicle was in reverse she finally understood. This took about a half hour and many replays of the video and me explaining what was happening.
And then she asked, "Why did you stop so far away from it though?".

I usually am a safe driver. I try not to tailgate and I try to remember to use my signals (sometimes it is such a habit I use my signal to leave my driveway and in parking lots). I also try to pay attention. IMO - this puts me above average - at least the "average" drivers I encounter most of the time.

But like anyone else, sometimes I get distracted/etc. - had a recent fender bender a month or two ago when I thought I was on a two way street that was a one way street (no, I was not going the wrong way, but I turned in front of someone in the left hand lane).

I have thought about having some cams in the car - both front and rear. Sides would be nice too. I will definitely do that when I build my RV if for no other reason than the visibility with a camper on the truck will be even more limited than it already is (I have more than one backed into a tree or stump on my property with my truck or my pickup - a few times even with the tractor {with that brush mower hanging out there you have to be really careful - neighbor's SIL did it hard enough to bend the housing enough that the blades would not swing anymore}).

I don't drive much anymore - mostly stay at home. Maybe drive 5K miles per year - but there are still a lot of idiots out there and one of these days someone will try to place the blame on me, when they are at fault. Having a cam would be good insurance.

Boy I wish I had one about 3 months ago. The racers are everywhere. We were heading south on I-5 near Fife (WA) and I saw two coming up in the rear view. I was in the second from the right lane. They both went by in the far right lane I am guessing around 80-85mph. Ended up clipping a car about two hundred yards in front of us which caused it to flip and then all hell broke loose with cars spinning around. The one that clipped the car hit the right guard rail and then went all the way across the FW into the left ditch. Not sure if anyone was hurt as I didn't see anything in the news about it. Was like a scene out of a movie.

I drive for a living now ( @Indy62 I got tired of assaulting one armed men) and see asshattery every day. They provide a lease SUV for me to drive. I initially brought my own dash cam and then late last year, I got into an accident at 1A. Guy failed to yield to off ramp of a highway. I didn't see him and sideswiped the guy. I pull over and guy drives around me and drives off. Now IF the CEO wasn't in the car, I would have given chase but.... Shortly thereafter, the company bought a dash cam with front and rear cameras. I think it was $120 at Sam's so not a big buy in to get dual coverage.

I watch the ASP YouTube channel quite a bit and they just had a road rage incident where an irate driver stomps the other guy almost to death. He got 17yrs for that.
