Well, the last few I have shot I left 'em lay. What do you guys do with your coyotes after shooting them?
Thanks, I would assume leaving them where they lay depends on whether it's public or private?Well, the last few I have shot I left 'em lay.
Ya know, vultures & other scavengers need to eat as well....
Well, all those I have shot have been out in the National Forest and never gave it a thought, considering they were most likely gone within a few hours of my leaving them. Thanks, I would assume leaving them where they lay depends on whether it's public or private?

I appreciate your response and take on it. When taking for the pelt what caliber do you use? Also how would one find a tanner for the hide?In the past I have taken the pelt / hide to tan....
And buried the remains.
Brother Coyote is respected by me.
That said...
The above I just me....and what I do / have done in the past.

That is a beautiful rifle. I have a black powder rifle I got from my grandfather that I need to restore. Hopefully it will be a winter project this year..54 caliber , a .530 lead round ball...a .15 patch...and 80 grains of 2F black powder.
This is my primary hunting and shooting rifle....
As for a tanner...
I have done it myself...brain tan...or had help from a Tribal member.

I've tanned a couple using 'old school' methods which are a little more time consuming. There are a few different ways to do it but look into it.Also how would one find a tanner for the hide?
I will be looking into to see whether I would want to or if someone near me does it. ThanksI've tanned a couple using 'old school' methods which are a little more time consuming. There are a few different ways to do it but look into it.

As far as restoring a black powder rifle...always a worthwhile endeavor .
I have some experience with muzzle loading firearms , in the shooting ...along with the cleaning , maintaining and restoring thereof.
If I can of some help here...please let me know.

I'll dig out one of my hides and post a pic!I will be looking into to see whether I would want to or if someone near me does it. Thanks

Let em lay where they drop in the field next to me we have vulchers and the last two the eagles got in on the feast too. The vultures didn't want anything to do with the eagles and waited in the trees till they had their fill. Got to see the eagles up close behind my place a few times. What do you guys do with your coyotes after shooting them?
Thanks in advance for all who reply!

That is a great looking jacket. How long did the tanning take? Not coyote...
But a jacket I made from the last elk I got.
Brain tan...lots of work...but a cool jacket.
Brain tan is very soft and when smoked...will not stretch all outta shape when wet and be stiff when dried.
