The OP may be referencing the recent United States push against the Chinese Communist Party's (and their proxies') predatory proliferation of the Western Hemisphere. Some of these U.S. endeavors include, but are not limited to, regaining control of portions of the Panama Canal, realigning Venezuela, pressure on Mexico, Central and South American election influencing.
Control of Islands, yes a few. Cuba, Diego Garcia, Republic of Palu. Probably some more in there somewhere...the oceans are kinda big.
And other U.S. actions that affect resource shipments to China. Most are highly publicized. Iran, tariffs, etc etc. Why?
Taiwan, the all mighty microprocessor, and possible U.S. involvement in the defense of the island nation under the Taiwan Relations Act. The PLA has been fortifying military positions in the South China Sea, and pressuring Taiwan with military maneuvers that posture invasion planning.
So with the current high demand on microprocessors (chips and that AI thang and other beep-boop-beep stuff) combined with the possibility of an CCP/PLA led invasion on Taiwan to enforce the One China policy, the prices of consumer electronics (and cars, and, and) could be driven through the roof.
That is my guess at what he may have meant, but I am not rushing out to purchase a new phone or even worrying about it at all. And...I am too busy trying to liquidate all the other panic products I've procured. Anyone need a 43,023 rolls of TP or 36,287.39 kilograms of avocados?
