Colt M16 magazine?

Scored a Colt 30rd mag at Costal in Albany yesterday. When was this made available to the US military? Was this used when the M16A1 was issued? I usually see 20rd mags.

Yes. We had 20 and 30 rd mags back in the day.

They first started issuing 30 round magazines for the M16A1 to the US Army in 1967.

And those first 30 rounders were a real treat. We had guys all over the place trying to trade their jam-o-matic 30 rounders for 20 rounders which actually worked.
