Im finding conflicting information. Based on the references Ive come across it seems legal CHL holders can carry on campus, or inside auto, but not in buildings. Any input would be appreciated.

Oops! Revised for updated info:

Oregon state and fed law allows CHL carry on college campuses (including within the buildings). A school "may" however prohibit firearms, but it must be prominently posted and noted on their website.

If citing exceptions under ORS 166.370 then section 3(g) allows for CHL holders.

Like this one for PCC:
"The possession of any dangerous weapon or deadly weapon (as defined in ORS 161.015) on college property is prohibited unless possessed by a certified law enforcement or public safety officer, as part of a college activity where such possession has been specifically granted, or in compliance with applicable Oregon State law (ORS 166.370)."

So CHL carry is allowed.

(I learned something new)

Spoke with campus safety and they gave a vague statement. It is not against the law. However, they "request that it is not brought on campus."

Back in 2007 Virginia Tech President Charles Steger went before the Virginia legislature to oppose allowing concealed carry on campuses and not long after that his own college lost 32 lives ....... major putz .

Steger was President during the Virginia Tech shootings of April 16, 2007, in which 32 people were killed and another 17 were injured by Seung-Hui Cho in two buildings on opposite sides of the sprawling campus. Cho's killings became the deadliest single-perpetrator civilian shooting in U.S. history. Steger called the shootings "a tragedy of monumental proportions."[3] In the report produced by a state appointed commission to review response by university, local, state, and federal agencies to the unfolding incident focused its criticism on the mental health system which failed Cho but also noted that "senior university administrators, acting as the emergency Policy Group, failed to issue an all-campus notification about the first two killings in a dormitory until almost two hours had elapsed. University practice may have conflicted with written policies."[4]

Nearly two-and-a-half hours after the first two killings, after leaving the Virginia Tech campus and walking to the Blacksburg Post Office to mail his manifesto to MSNBC, Cho chained the doors of Norris Hall and opened fire. He took the lives of 30 more students and faculty members before killing himself as police stormed the building.

Steger, along with several other Virginia Tech officials, was personally named a defendant in lawsuits filed against the Commonwealth of Virginia by the families of two of the deceased victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, though Steger was later dismissed from the case.[5] In 2012 Jurors in Montgomery County Circuit Court ruled that the state was negligent in the deaths of Julia Pryde and Erin Peterson. The jury panel awarded the parents of Pryde and Peterson $4 million each. The court later reduced the amount to $100,000 per family.[6]

This judgement was overturned on appeal in a unanimous verdict by the Virginia Supreme Court on October 31, 2013. The justices wrote that "there was no duty for the Commonwealth to warn students about the potential for criminal acts by third parties. Therefore we will reverse the judgement of the circuit court."[7] :(

Don't say anything and keep it concealed.

End of discussion.

PS I would not have called campus security and hopefully you didn't give your name.

Oregon SB554 ended our right to carry on school grounds in 2021.

School boards (public K-12, colleges, universities) may adopt policies banning CHL holders from possession of guns on school grounds.

Not entirely. It simply allows schools to decide for themselves. Granted, many do prohibit firearms but also allow exceptions under ORS 166.270 that does allow CHL permit holders. Like PCC. I guess now you have to be a detective, but there is also the requirement than those restricting access have to prominently display their policy at points of entry.. in full... including citations and any exceptions to have the affect of law.

I revised my post #2. I had honestly forgotten about 554. My bad!

Prior to 2021 SB554 School Boards and signage meant nothing to Oregon CHL holders. Now if there is a No Firearms sign on campus or notice on the website, then you are screwed. The big loss with SB554 was school "grounds" which include that vacant lot owned by the district across town from any schools it too is a legal no guns zone.

Yes. Just that there is a distinction between a general firearms ban (with exceptions) and a firearms ban that also specifically bans CHL holders, too. It looks like most do have a general ban, but not all also prohibit CHL holders as well. IE., most colleges and universities appear to exempt CHL holders, but that's about as far down the chain as I looked.

I had to drop my wife off at the COCC campus in Bend this summer and found out that CHL holders are not banned, however they really, really, really want you to keep it concealed because their snowflakes may over-react if they see a firearm. Also, dogs are banned on the COCC campus, so I had to keep mine concealed in the car.

Now we have to conceal carry our dogs. They have gone too far! :s0112:
