Saw a good deal on a pair of Leupold binos at Costco today. They come with a sorta cheezy pocket knife and what appears to be a nice chest harness for the binos. Reg $169 but now with a $40 instant rebate, $129! I had to give this package a good look. What I found was the inevitable "made in china" on the back of the packaging.
So much for the American craftsmanship associated with this brand.
Tariff the hell out of em' DJT!

I don't believe that any of their binos are made in the US. In the past, the lower end units were made in China, and the better unit was made in Japan.

Notice the scopes don't even say Made In USA?
They switched to 'assembled' after Leatherman lost a lawsuit about how much of the product needed to be made "here" to call it "made" in the USA. There are no USA made sources for optical quality glass lenses and almost no possibility there ever will be

so they get only the lenses overseas but everything else is made here?

And this is why I'm OK with using Made in Japan optics if I can find the right era scope for my 20" HBAR AR-15 :s0140:
Sure does seem that certain models of scopes are expensive for the brand even if they're Japan made, or if they're a specific model used by Colt (coughs, Tasco armored scope on Delta Elite coughs)

He says while wearing clothes made in India/Indonesia/Taiwan, driving a Mexican made vehicle of Korean parts after having a breakfast of sumatran coffee and Guatemalan oranges...

Point is, not much of anything anyone owns is American made of American components. And we're all, clearly, generally ok with this.

Looks over at my pile of US Berry Amendment fabrics and thread and surplus gear and armor plates and guns and ammo ahem... :s0064:

That's pretty darn close enough in my book.
Odd there is no made in America source for quality optical lenses...
IIRC it is a combination of the specifics of the sand, the cost of the start up and the nasty predilection we have for not living near toxic waste dumps
