Carlos Hathcock and his Finnish counterpart, Simo Hayhaa, and the WW1 Canadian First Nations Cpl Francis Pegamegabo, M/Cpl Rob Furlong and COH Craig Harrison, Chris Kyle, Sgt Dan Mills, Jack Coughlin and other less well-known military personnel are all renowned for doing what they did for altruistic reasons - to save their fellows. Not for them the satisfaction of simply killing somebody, THEIRS was the satisfaction of having prevented that somebody, or somebody like them, from wreaking psychological and physical havoc on their fellow soldiers or Marines.

I have three of those rifles...they make for a excellent teaching tool for new shooters...
As well as , a simple , yet fun .22 rifle for experienced shooters alike.

I, too, use a single shot rifle. Mine is a sadly-bubba'ed Walther Sport modelle that was 'got at' sometime before 1954 by persons unknown. It retains the beautiful and precise backsight, though.

Here y'are, for you and Mike, who seems to like my old guns...

In case you've noticed, and might be wondering, what the odd-looking zig-zag cartouche is that is just under the script, here a biggermentation -

It reads [upside-down!] NOT ENGLISH MAKE and was applied to any and all firearms entering the UK from the early 20s to 1954. As if it could have been anything else, with such clear Walther stamps...it was marked on action AND barrel, BTW.

No, it was supposed to be bemusement. Humor on the keyboard seems to frequently hit shy of the mark.

I'm just an old guy who appreciates the technology, steel, wood, craftsmanship and design as well as the employment of such firearms, be they humble or not.

I will be painting this weekend in the never ending nightmare of living in a whole house remodel.
I wonder who was the genius who thought that up? Oh wait, never mind.

I think that rifle may be the model my Grandfather let me try to wear out when I was a kid. It looks the same, except mine had a rear sight made from a penny. I killed more animals with that rifle than I care to remember. Thanks for sharing.

Just for fun...I'll be taking one of my Stevens model 15's out for grouse and rabbit , this weekend....:D

When I decide to sell my Remington 582 you can have first dibs. I shot grouse with my Savage 24V .223/20ga. , Ruger 10/22, Ruger Single-Six, Browning BPS 20 ga. and occasionally the Ruger Blackhawk .357. One with a bow. A very bad attempt with my 7mm mag.

Problem is, Sir, that my Japanese system computer does not register emoticons except as a little hollow square. So I tend not to use them unless I know the gwaeth that represents them, like : and ), which makes :)

He still being alive and among us, I did not care to draw attention to him.
Agreed 100%
The articles and books I have read about him. He is not one to seek attention and prefers a private life. Edit :
In hind site might have been best if I hadn't mentioned him
