Will be driving through the capitol state forest next week, thinking of stopping at a pit and getting some trigger time in. I know there are a handful of shooting spots out there, wondering which you all recommend. Mainly interested in those near the highway 8/highway 12 junction. Triangle pit is on the opposite side of the forest, so that one's out. Is Lytle pit still active? Are there any others nearby that would be worth checking out? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Correction - driving PAST, not through. I'll be taking highway 8 heading west, so will be skirting the northern/northwestern edges of the forest.

After you pass the summit lake grocery, it's a left turn across highway traffic to access the state forest.
Haven't been in this winter. But it's usually muddy and full of potholes once you get in.
Might be a patch of snow here or there, but it's been warm so I doubt it.
Just look for the empty shotgun hulls.
Some spots are better than others. Roads branch off all over, but it's pretty hard to get lost. You're always within a few miles of a way out.
