My 03 FFL expires in about two weeks. I called about two weeks ago, as suggested, when a renewal form never showed up. Could not get through on their line and left a message as suggested. No reply or form received. I spent four+ hours on hold again today and not gotten through.

I cannot find a renewal form (Form 8) online. There are only ones that say "DRAFT" in disfiguring stamp and do not look usable. Is there a source, or has someone successfully navigated this? I'm annoyed and out of options I can find.

Imagine the ATF holding out a renewal form…

Does not look like they have it up on eforms either. I guess FFL renewals are a paper process only. If you cannot get a hold of the ATF on this then 🤷‍♂️, contact your local congress critter or hire a lawyer to see if that gets a response out of them.

Seems like I recall the check and application for renewal goes to a Portland Oregon address. My guess would be the Federal building. I wonder if you could hand carry your application around and get it done right then and there.

OK, so here's how it went:

A) told to wait for mailed renewal form
B) never showed up
C) spent HOURS on the phone to request a renewal form. 8/10 hours total on hold, then hung up on at 5pm. (Over two days)
D) Panicked finally, a week before and posted here and another gun forum I am familiar with.
E) Given a secret/squirrel email address to send my request to.
F) Did so, got a reply within 24 hours with renewal forms I could print and send in.
G) Mailed them in, got it processed and my renewed FFL back 20 days later.

I've had an FFL for decades; renewed every three years. I've never had BS like this. I can only suspect there is an active attempt to keep people from easily renewing FFLs. I've dealt with the ATF (folks at HQ in WV) a few times in the past on minor issues - license typos, etc. c. 2010, I recall once calling ATF HQ on an issue. I was connected to a staff lawyer IN MINUTES. She rapidly assessed, fixed, and re-issued a new license in minutes and I had it in days.

I cannot fathom how the new process is nothing but an extra-legal attempt to cancel and prevent licensure. Please talk me down from this; but it's what I hear on gun boards/forums now.

Sounds like when I got my FFL in the late 1980's under a Republican President. The application was one sheet of paper 8.5"x11" to be filled out on both sides. When renewal time came around, and Mr. Bill was President, the form expanded to 7 pages, they asked for drawings of where the firearm inventory was stored, and they wanted I.D's of everyone, including the dog at my home based store.

I told them to stuff it, and liquidated my inventory.
