And here is the Woodford Reserve. Had my wife taste it before and after.

The bit settling at the bottom is the apple bits and a quick shake mixes it all back in before pour...

My wife says, after the mixing, the bourbon gets a smoked apple flavor and is easier to drink...

Im looking for recommendations for a Bourbon that would pair well with fresh made apple cider...

Bottles ideally less than $50.

Essentially, I just lost my best friend from Brain Cancer on the 10th. He was only 38yrs old...

After his passing, I found there was a local Bourbon place he loved to go too, helped make it a popular place in the community.

I am returning to Salado Texas in less than 2 weeks for a Celebration of life and want to make a bottle or 2 of my special apple cider alcohols using Bourbon as a base.

If you can imagine the flavor profile of a fresh pressed apple cider with apple bits at the bottom to shake up into before pouring that flavor profile to be combined with the alcohols flavor without losing any alcohol content...

Thank you.

I'm no bourbon expert but you might consider 4 Roses Small Batch
T o me it has a caramel flavor that I find quite pleasant. It was $36/750 ml last time I bought a bottle.
Sorry for your loss.

Approach it like a chef. Are you looking for sweet? Makers Mark. Drier and more alcohol? Knob Creek. Cinnamon flavor? Few drops of Fireball or infuse with cinnamon stick. A touch of lemon peel will brighten the apple flavor. Rye is a consideration but an acquired taste. 4 roses or angels envy are both excellent. I find Woodford too reserved… pun intended. Avoid Jim and Jack. Rotgut crappola.

I second that. Jim Beam is horrible excrement, Jack Daniels, which is a hard swallow, isn't bourbon, anyway.
Elijah Craig is a nice middle of the road, behaved bourbon. Woodford Reserve sits there as well.
Pretty much. Buffalo Trace is an easy drinker, and Bulleit has some nice notes as well. Larceny if you can find it at $24 ...

One of my buddies has a saying, "There's no accounting for taste."

A lot of these "higher quality" bourbons listed above have a corn finish that I don't like. It reminds me of what corn meal tastes like. :s0170:
I really don't like that. However, some bourbons have a minty, or menthol like finish that I rather enjoy. My normal faves are Wild Turkey Rare Breed both bourbon and rye.
I just received a bottle of bourbon that I'd never heard of and think it's a fantastic one. Chicken Cock Reserve Cask.
Gotta be careful with that one, though. It's 129 proof!

I don't remember ever pairing whiskey of any kind with apple cider, but I'll have to give it a try.
