Hey all! I was curious what have you guys have bought just because you think it looks cool? Not because you needed a good reliable carry gun, or some other purpose driven purchase. But simply because you seen one and had to have it, wether it's a movie/tv gun, video game gun or just walked into a gun store and couldn't help yourself… some people might think the whole idea is silly but not me! My last one was a used gsg 9mm mp40 pistol…. Honestly I thought it looked awesome, I'll never own a transferable one and it doesn't do anything a Glock 17 can't. It in fact does things much worse but it looks so darn neat!

I bought a MAC 5K MP5 clone. Because why not? It's a cool design and will make a good suppressor host once I can get to run reliable. I changed out the extractor and ejector with HK parts and it seems to run fine now. I just need to put some rounds through it make the final determination.

To me, form follows function. I buy nothing because of looks, but only of function, usefulness, etc.

Oh... There are exceptions. I could very much buy a rifle or shotgun because of the beautiful bluing and walnut.

Probably about the only thing I MIGHT have bought partially on the fact it 'looked cool' but more interesting of design AND because I had already shot one was a Kel Tec S2K.

It didn't take me long however to realize the 'error of my ways' and 'practical' and 'pragmatic' thinking returned to my senses and sold the idiotic thing.

I am not sure about applying the word "cool", but, unless purely for social purposes, the æsthetics of a firearm is almost as important as function in my buying or building decisions. Though interest in a given look has varied wildly depending on the particular fascination of the time. So, in answer to the inquiry, a qualified "yes".

Agree with @CountryGent looks are a major factor for any firearm (excluding edc which is purely function for me). I can't think of any I've bought on looks alone. But several times looks have piqued my interest enough to buy it. But I wouldn't buy it unless it was reliable #1, and served some function I want #2.

Off the top of my head, #1 I would be Sar 2000. I bought it to experiment with different finishes for the all stainless gun. But the other factors were it's a reliable cz-75 clone, members here recommended it, and it was $343. I jeweled the frame and next I'll probably sand and polish the slide to see what that looks like.
#2 was Cricket 22 bolt action pistol. Other factors were price ($156 as I recall) and barrel length. If it wasn't threaded I never would have considered it. I would like to find something similar in 9mm or 300 BLK.

Most everything i buy is function first, however there are 2 purchases that were more for looks or love to own one.

One was a double barrel shotgun.

The other, a Colt A2 from the personal collection of Paul Harrell.

Yeah, I could see being impractical for a really beautiful side-by-side, or a nice coach gun.

But foldy gats are rad!….I could never get my sub 2k to run hahaha

I did the same thing with the SAR 9X. I liked the look. I got in on sale for $249.00. And it is actually quite practical. Does your CZ clone accept actual CZ mags?
