I think for the purest the Colt is worth it. I have never owned one but have shot one and it was a fine pistol. I bought my first 1911 off of a recommendation that I would like one and shoot it well. I did. The 1911 platform is my favorite semi auto platform to shoot. The grips just fit me, they shoot nice, and I can conceal carry one effortlessly. My first 1911 was a Kimber Eclipse II. I bought it used and struggled with reliability to feed and stove pipes. It went in for a polish on the breech face and tweaks to the barrel hood and ran flawless after that. There was one brand of self defense ammo it hated and that was because of the long pointy bullet choice. It would not eject a live round without it hanging up on the barrel hood.

I sold that gun to a friend and later tried to buy it back and he, to this day, won't part with it. It is a nice shooter.

I ended up buying a Sig Nitron, pre rail 1911. It is not for purists. It has an external extractor and a slabbed slide. It has run flawless right out of the box since new. Every kind of self defense ammo I have feeds right through it. It has had a steady diet of my handholds since the very first shot. I do believe it only has about five mags full of my store bought ammo through it and maybe a hundred of the self defense load I carried in it. It has eaten a couple thousand of my own loads. It has a nice long throat that never objects to longer bullets and is very accurate in the right hands.

If I were more into semi autos and not revolvers I do believe I would have a few Colt 1911's in the safe.

I've pretty much owned them all. I have had better luck with Rugers and Springfields than Colts. And even a Kimber gave me some misfeed pproblems until it was well broke in.
Sorry to say even the Phillipine 1911s have been perfect. Colts live on their name.
