It turns out that I no longer can play the banjo! I need to hang it on the wall again so it's easy to access and get to hammering at it .

Here's the 3 finger style I'm trying to learn...skip to 0:21View: https://youtu.be/95NVVdc2cnk?si=1loS7zDw3K-wO0eF
I could play this version really good a few years back before life happened. I messed around a bit tonight with it. I need to hang my banjo on the wall so I'm reminded to play more. I'll be doing that tomorrow if I'm recovered enough from the man flu.
I enjoy both styles of banjo also. It's neat how one tune can sound so different by the technique used. What amazing instruments and truly an American sound! I chose to go the claw hammer route because it seemed like it might be easier for me to pick up on and I was intrigued by the different sound they make when I heard it the first time. My wife mentioned tonight that it's been over five years since she's heard me play. It's a shame I quit. Time to get going again. Luckily for the neighbors they live a quarter mile away, lol!@monks , I also have a Recording King RKOH - 5 tone ring open back banjo. I'm not sure if I'm going to try claw hammer or not, but do like the difference in sound.

I did. Still a Gold Tone but a bit lighter and still puts out a good sound.Thank you, my friend! I meant to ask you, did you find a little bit lighter weight banjo that wasn't as heavy as the OB-150?
You pick, therefore you grin.I discovered in my practice sessions, I periodically have an issue with my planted fingers causing my picking hand to rotate at odd angles. Thus, causing me to miss strings. Specifically, the second string! My pinky seems to me, is quite short! Anyway, I discovered through a recommendation, that by using a small strip of Velcro and pulling it up next to the ring finger, I only have to plant the ring finger on my right hand down. This really helped me out a lot for today's practice session. I may have to do this every time I play.

My favorite modern day banjo player. Mary James. Here's a great piece of banjo music. It's a little outside what you'd normally think of as 'banjo music'!

It will serve you well. While I was not going to upgrade 'til I got a little better, I came across a brand new Gold Tone BG-150L for $230 cheaper than most everywhere else! I just could not let it pass at that price!![]()
As long as nothing happens to this one, I shall probably never need to buy another banjo again. She is a real beauty in my eyes and I can tell sound difference between her and my beginner Gold Tone CC-BG!
