@monks , I also have a Recording King RKOH -6 tone ring open back banjo. I'm not sure if I'm going to try claw hammer or not, but do like the difference in sound.

I enjoy both styles of banjo also. It's neat how one tune can sound so different by the technique used. What amazing instruments and truly an American sound! I chose to go the claw hammer route because it seemed like it might be easier for me to pick up on and I was intrigued by the different sound they make when I heard it the first time. My wife mentioned tonight that it's been over five years since she's heard me play. It's a shame I quit. Time to get going again. Luckily for the neighbors they live a quarter mile away, lol!

Eight years before I forgot how to play the banjo I graduated to a resonator guitar.

I discovered in my practice sessions, I periodically have an issue with my planted fingers causing my picking hand to rotate at odd angles. Thus, causing me to miss strings. Specifically, the second string! My pinky seems to me, is quite short! Anyway, I discovered through a recommendation, that by using a small strip of Velcro and pulling it up next to the ring finger, I only have to plant the ring finger on my right hand down. This really helped me out a lot for today's practice session. I may have to do this every time I play.

You pick, therefore you grin.

While I was not going to upgrade 'til I got a little better, I came across a brand new Gold Tone BG-150F for $230 cheaper than most everywhere else! I just could not let it pass at that price! 😁 🙄 As long as nothing happens to this one, I shall probably never need to buy another banjo again. She is a real beauty in my eyes and I can tell sound difference between her and my beginner Gold Tone CC-BG!

It will serve you well.

Wooohooo, I did it! I got all the parts of Cripple Creek without missing anything. I didn't sound the greatest, but dadgummit, I got it. Just going to need some more practice going slow, then I can start working on speeding it up. @BanjoGeek , I appreciate the encouragements! :s0155: I did it on my new banjo to boot!😁

Jubal said I can call on him as witness, cause his ears are hurting hearing me pounding away on this thing! 🤣
