Ammo Shortage 2023

I picked up a box of 30-06 today. It's a brand I've never heard of before. PPU. From Serbia!?

What happened to the brands we've all been using for years?

Did the covid lockdowns damage or destroy those companies?

Or are we sending all of the good stuff to Ukraine?

Does anyone here know why the familiar brands are scarce (or gone)?

I assume you're talking about Federal, Winchester and Remington?

It's out there, plenty of it around here. You went to the wrong shop!

PPU has been around for years. Good ammo, good brass for reloading. They make lots of calibers that are hard to find in standard brands; 6.5 Swede, 7.5 Swiss, 7.5 French, .303 British, etc.

Another vote for PPU Ammo....it is good stuff.

As far as what has happened to all the other brands...?
All I can say is that I am seeing more ammo on the shelves in my area.
However...not as much variety of type or loadings...
The more common brands are there like Federal , Remington , Speer , Winchester , CCI....
Just not a lot of loadings to choose from.

And I never thought I'd see the day when .30-30 ammo was damn near $40 a box of 20 or non-existent on the shelf....

Don't own anything in that cal, just looked at SG, they have multiple flavors of stuff with names I recognize. If you spend $200 mix or match of anything they sell they send it to your door free.

PPU has been around a long time and makes good ammo. It's pretty much all I shoot in terms of full-sized bottleneck rifle cartridges (.30-06, 7.62x54r, 8mm, 7.5x55, 7.5x54, .303, etc) and I've never had a problem. Their match ammo is VERY good but the crimps are too light imo

I'd rather see PPU on a box than Winchester or Remington (or Norma oddly enough, they've been having problems)

I bought few cases of 5.56 brass cased PPU ammo that is made is Serbia and it good ammunition. I have shot must of it as the range when 1000 rounds was not that costly compared to today's ammuntion prices.
