Safooma, This size can was introduced after WW I for use with 50 cal. ammo for machine guns. Since then the military packs various things in this size can, such as 5.56, 45, 9mm, shot gun shells, fuses, etc. That is why I included the dimensions of the can in the ad. I hope this helps. BruceQuestion: Post says 50 cal, but the pic indicates the boxes are from 5.56 mm. Which is it? I would think the .50 cal boxes would be larger the 5.56.
